Would someone kindly bring up the link please from Mail on Line. Thank you.
It occurs to me that if you read the ''WORST COMMENTS'' You may agree why animals suffer so much?
Yes it is true the Great leader Gandhi said '' The greatness of a nation & it's progress can be judged by the way it treat's it's animals.
One comment says we should ignore them ... we have enough trouble with our own X-(X-( .
They are no trouble, they can do nothing about it. They are the victims of those that allow it to go on.

A few comments from that article:
Don't worry, the dogs and their owners will all be here next year. God help us.
- Mikesell, Wellingborough. UK., 28/4/2013 11:46

I'd rather have the animals than the people coming over
- Alice,, through the looking glass, 28/4/2013 8:31
Tell you what, change the rules so that as of January, all the dogs can come over to the UK but not the people. Give me a dog over a person any day.

Job done.
Pity she treats the disabled with contempt:

So did someone else i read about, but never mind,he loved dogs

If mitz had wrote the article then you know it would be 100% genuine about animal welfare. Liz (and this is the prob for me) does not give me that impression.
02-05-2013 9:12 AM
What gets me is the facelift she got with Botox put in and she never talked about the animals that it was tested on .. To me she is a me..me..me person.. Going to a poor country with your designer clothes friends and calling yourself an angle dosent do it for me....I cleaned up the beach the other day with friends and now im going to call myself ........the King of playa del Ingles beach.. There is dog and cat problems all over the world..

Jones uses the same rationale::
"Hilda is just one of the three million stray dogs in Romania, turfed out of homes after the fall of the Iron Curtain and Ceusescu in 1989, when millions of people were relocated into high-tise flats."
Looks like Hilda has had a very impressive innings anyway.
The problem I often find with with animal rights activists/extremists is they don't see beyond their self-imposed Dr Dolittle martyrdom, anthropomorphising, emotive words, & photographs of sad puppy eyes. And whether it is deliberate or accidental, it soon becomes evident the complete disdain or irreverence they have for the "rights" or welfare of humans. After all, any misfortune that happens to humans can simply be brushed off as their "own fault" innit?
Campaigning for more ethical treatment of animals is commendable - But as Jones has done in this instance, using it to simultaneously politicise, demonise and stoke xenophobia isn't imo.
Wow hard work isn't it? If only it wasn't for those sad puppy eyes.
The article I drew attention to was worthy of attention I thought. I have given my thoughts.
If as you say it's is a barely-veiled political broadcast, as well as an attempt to de-humanise the entire population of a country. Then like others on here I disagree.
Some have views to get their agenda through. I have views on ''animal welfare''on this topic.
Those quotes you and #60 brought up are of course not mine. I think it might be a fairer idea if you allowed those that want to to draw their own conclusion, from those comments in the link at #1. Picking out what suites YOU can be one sided;-).

That's the thing though mere ,the plight of 3 million sheep in the falklands,3 million penguins in antartica,3 million elephants in india,3 million gorillas in africa 3 million dolphins in the sea etc
The plight of stray or mistreated animals ...well just point in a direction.
02-05-2013 11:02 AM
ps it's impossible to count 3 million stray dogs btw.
02-05-2013 8:30 PM
At least their strays have a slight chance. Behind lock doors it's different though.
This is one of the many of our own, I'm very, very ashamed to say:
Kathleen Crowley, the owner, looks well fed don't she? And quite happy to have her picture taken.. a moment of infamy to enjoy perhaps? Wasn't well enough to look after her dogs she says? Her partner and daughter live with her - and could not get a tin of food, or clean, or pick up a phone - Just could not help at all?!
And do you know what she has been given a two-month jail sentence suspended for a year. That will send out a message to the rest of the MONSTERS out there wont it?!
And banned for life! from keeping them. Pity they can't ban all 3 from breathing X-(.

Hello Spawn.
Well why focus on 3 million anyway? What ever the number is it matters.
Your #65 - 'ps it's impossible to count 3 million stray dogs btw' (Oh come on spawn!)
No one need try. I think that's an estimate btw.
'Point a direction' and it might be much more as this direction might suggest....

Honestly merehazel I give up! :_|
I know in some countries 'dogs' are considered as a food source and therefore some will agree with this Mayor's statement. In South Korea dogs are considered a “delicacy” and I won’t illustrate how they are killed on here as it is very distressing and for me to type.
The people of Romania are responsible for the plight of all these unwanted dogs (as is everyone else in other countries including ours) and once again, due to human apathy, ignorance and lack of respect for anything else that is not human, it is the dogs that will now suffer and horribly.
Those unfortunate enough to live in poor countries and have never seen an À la carte menu are left to fend for themselves or starve created by corrupt Governments, greed, war mongering and power and if those in power don’t care about them what chance do the animals have – absolutely none. I also hold the view that if you are poor with no prospects then don’t knowingly breed.
I have said this before but will say it again, the human race is nothing but a parasite with a holier than thou attitude believing it is their right to prey and exploit everything that swims, crawls, flies and walks.
The only rights animals have are those conferred upon them by us and we do not deserve the planet we inhabit or the creatures that helplessly share it with us.
The day will come when there is nothing left but our own species because we will have hunted everything to extinction, polluted and violated our air, soil and water and will not be happy until we have, used, abused and destroyed every precious living thing – Man is the weakest thing in nature.
29-05-2013 12:46 PM
Mitzi - whilst I agree with much of what you say the problem in Romania regarding these dogs is not one which can possibly be solved by giving each of them a loving and responsible home.
That leaves the situation of, (assuming the estimates are accurate), 3 million feral dogs roaming the streets and countryside.
So what is the solution, do we give these their full "rights" and allow them to roam and breed at will with the consequence that most will "suffer" as food supplies that they can hunt dry up and disease spreads, including rabies, without the intervention of veterinary care or should a managed and humane solution of culling them be implemented. I'm afraid I would opt for the latter as the kindest solution.

Alas Creeky I have come to the same conclusion. To release them would be cruel. Some maybe lucky and indeed be liberated into homes, other organisations in the western world may be able to intervene and save the others but not all.
We have the same problem in this country and I know that this forum has discussed this many times but for the sake of this topic, I have taken this the Dogs Trust website:
“Every year Dogs Trust commissions research company GfK NOP to conduct a survey of all local authorities throughout the UK, to find out the state of the nation’s stray dog problem. By asking how many dogs are seized by or handed in to council pounds, and how many of those dogs are returned, re-homed or put to sleep, we are able to form a complete picture of the UK stray dog situation and allocate our funding to work in those areas most in need of help.
The 2012 annual Stray Dogs Survey released today by Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, reveals a shocking 118,932 stray and abandoned dogs were picked up by Local Authorities across the UK over the last 12 months, equating to a staggering 325 stray dogs being found every day.
The survey shows that of the 118,932 stray dogs that were picked up by Local Authorities in the last year a significant proportion in London and other urban areas were those breeds deemed so called ‘status dogs’ by the media. In the Granada region the numbers of stray ‘status dogs’ have risen by 82%, in Greater London they have increased by an incredible 148%.”
--------------------------------------
It is impossible to calculate the true number if we take into account all the animals that are not recorded or handed into rescues, the RSPCA and other welfare organisations and, of course, the dogs that are taken to their vets to be euthanized for all the wrong reasons.
Our own statistics are disgraceful and to calculate this problem on a world wide scale would be incomprehensible.
All dogs and other animals deserve better.
30-05-2013 1:38 AM
Sadly the increase in financial stress for some people in this country means more and more dogs will be either dumped or handed into places like the RSPCA.
Just as it's a process of education for people to think hard before having children, so it's the same taking on an animal. It's about people thinking through the ramifications of their decisions not just viewing it as another "entitlement". Just another example of our society in free fall...
03-06-2013 8:59 PM
Yes as mitz #71 says:
'Our own statistics are disgraceful and to calculate this problem on a world wide scale would be incomprehensible'
We can at least try to point out what we see, where ever we see it. And hope that some help just might get through.
And here is another story to point out from Afghanistan:
Joe who was almost dead when he reached the shelter, but is now making a good recovery. So many don't. I have to say though the RSPCA do do good work I think they would have put Joe down.
British dog lovers, former Royal Marine Sergeant Pen Farthing and one-time soldier Louise Hastie - and the UK - registered animal charity Nowzad based in a suburb are doing all that they can with very limited resources as you would expect.
Details of animals for adoption, or how to make a donation can be found at
Yes, this story is from the Mail online. Be warned if you wish to view more.

Well it seems it's almost as bad in UK....
Well did anyone see that programme ''new cowboy traders'' 8 PM CH 5 tonight about puppy farms?
And that vile women was getting as much as £5,000 a day for selling very sick and dying puppies. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
If not you can see it on iplayer tomorrow. But be warned it's very, very distressing to see.

Yes charliebird #78 that defies belief. (government guide - lines X-().
And this sort of cruelty will go on and on and on because most do not fear the consequences. They stash the money away and soon are at it again because the rewards for being so cruel are too great.
That is a different story from my #77 of course. But as I said this is just the tip of the iceberg.
One of the comments on your link someone say's: ''Seems like harsh punishment to me, they were only dogs.'' X-( (worst rated) of course.
China, has no anti-cruelty laws. Our laws it seems in so many cases are about as effective.
