It occurs to me that if you read the ''WORST COMMENTS'' You may agree why animals suffer so much?

Yes it is true the Great leader Gandhi said '' The greatness of a nation & it's progress can be judged by the way it treat's it's animals.

One comment says we should ignore them ... we have enough trouble with our own X-(X-( .

They are no trouble, they can do nothing about it. They are the victims of those that allow it to go on.

Creeky you originally claimed that Liz jones was a hypocrite because she was 'extolling the virtues' of Karl Lagerfeld which was blatantly untrue.

Now, several posts later,  you are claiming that she must condone his use of fur because she hasn't commented otherwise. That is a pretty lame argument even by your standards LOL

Well it does seem strange when you read some of the comments by KL about the fur trade and yet not a peep of criticism by someone who has written numerous articles about the use of fur by fashion houses other than Chanel and even criticising the Queen for wearing fur.

the plight of animals is all very well,but why all of a sudden romanian and bulgarian animals ?  I know so does mrs s p ,.Once upon a time it was the plight of the children in orphanages in these countries that was used to politically shift minds to allow them to join the EU ,now its the animals to open arms all round...how can we refuse sad eyes eh ?

If she was anything more than a spokesperson ''of the climate'' then I would commend her approach to world plights, but as it happens publicity stunts make me agree with creeky.

They've all got the same aim at the end of the day.. to raise public awareness of certain issues and plights and to beg other people for funding?

Nothing wrong with raising awareness lola ,its the when where and why of...as for creeky doing a publicity stunt for his rescue horses then yep and rightly so imo and as I said if her article had been at a different time about a different place ..then she has commendable quality.

All just my opinion on the timing of her article and nothing to do with a slant on the improving the lives if possible of all life on our spinning orb 🙂

I've been reading Liz Jones' weekly diary in YOU magazine for more years than I can remember and in all those years she has always been actively involved in the rescue of mistreated and neglected animals.

I couldn't give a rat's rear end what you *think* of the timing of her article but what I do know is that certain posters on here should do a bit more research before they start bandying words like 'hypocrite' and 'publicity stunts' around because there is an awful lot of hypocrisy being displayed right here on this very thread not to mention 'charity' snobbery!

This piece is what you call a BOGOF - "Buy one - get one free".  On one side you have "aawww look at those poor doggies" - Liz Jones to the rescue!. On the other side, you have "Grrr look at those evil Romanians - foreign baddie, foreign baddie, foreign baddie". Repeat and rinse.

Next week, it wouldn't surprise me if Liz Jones and her entourage of vacuous fashionistas fly out to Bangladesh for some bargain hunting, as well as a campaign to rehouse a family of house-martins whose nest was damaged during the clothing factory collapse.

I was very distressed to read this article and thank Merehazel for posting it.

I agree with all of Lola's sentiments and irrespective of other people's views regarding this woman, she has brought the plight of these helpless animals into the public eye and sometimes it takes a well known celebrity or a “publicity stunt” to make the public sit up and notice so to call her the new "Canine  Angel of Romania" with this particular mission is exactly what she is.

I commend her and everyone else involved who tirelessly works with and rescues animals even if it is to “re-house a family of house-martins” (#34).

We are supposedly a nation of “animal lovers” but we all know this is not true, we are as guilty if not more, of the diabolical treatment and abuse we inflict on our animals and there are millions of unwanted and abandoned pets sitting in our rescue centres.

We should be ashamed of ourselves.  Liz Jones has highlighted the situation in Romania which is, if the truth be know, a sad sorry reflection of what goes on in our own country but whilst some on here will argue and nick pick about her as an individual, all concerted efforts should be channeled towards the animals who are the victims here and be thankful that Liz Jones has finally given them a voice.

The way Book has illustrated the situation may be a bit contentious but I believe he has got the sentiment correct.

What do you want the people of Romania to do about these hundreds of stray animals - their economy can't even support their own people.  By all means send out funds to provide care for them but don't criticise the people who quite frankly have got far bigger problems to worry about!

I don't see how you come to that conclusion Mitzi - Romania is one of the few countries in the world with a declining population.  Roughly the same population now as it was in the 1930s.

The birth rate is also declining.

This maybe the case but before I answer, may I ask where you obtained the birth rate declining statistics from?
