My neighbour's rent is currently £80 and is 100% paid by housing benefit.
He has a spare bedroom which is a small box room.
He has been told that from April he will have to contribute £11.20 per week towards the rent which he cannot afford so he has found a one bedroom flat to rent in the private sector. The rent for this flat is £90 per week which will be paid 100% by housing benefit.
How can this make sense?

Well done Glasgow Housing Association
They plan to spend £16million to buy 300 one-bedroom flats on the open market.
Chairman Gordon Sloan slammed the welfare reform, which came into effect on Monday, saying “cruel and unfair changes” would have a devastating impact on families and communities.
He said: “”It is shocking that some tenants are telling us they may have to go without food or heating to cover the shortfall in their benefits and keep a roof over their heads.”
GHA aim to help those who will lose benefit to be rehoused in smaller properties and will help with removal costs. It will also encourage mutual exchanges and home swaps.

Muslims in Birmingham are getting around the bedroom tax by calling it the family prayer room, so this may help people to get around it.....

Outline
Messages circulating via social media claim that Muslims can be exempted from the new bedroom tax imposed on UK welfare recipients by setting aside the spare bedroom as a prayer room.
Brief Analysis
The claims are false. Even if tenants choose to designate a room in their house as a place of worship, they cannot use this reason to avoid paying bedroom tax or any other taxes. Versions of this bogus message began circulating long before the bedroom tax was introduced.
