DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi all, pippy_oak here, posting under my brand new user name. Hopefully, Richard will pin this thread, as it seems a nice tidy place to pose specific questions about a book (Is it a 1st edition, what's it worth, where to find it etc. etc.) Don't just come here with a question. If you think you have the answer, then let's hear it.

Or we could just mooch around and learn a few things.

Cheers

Paul

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

You're probably going to get 50 from a roll, that's about 28p per book.

Roy, is it McCone or McClone as you have posted elsewhere for the former and here for the latter?

Sagesaucer. Sorry I'll try again. It's the first novel by Guy McCrone - The Striped Umbrella. Published by Constable 1937.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Continues the story of the Moorhouse family that began in "The Wax Fruit Trilogy". Bel Moorhouse is a woman driven by ruthless social ambition and an unstoppable desire for her and her family to rise to the very top of Glasgow society. Guy McCrone is the author of "The Striped Umbrella".

Seen a couple of his other books on sites but not this one.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Well I'm having a similar problem now - either that or I'm having a peculiar senior moment. I have only been able to find one copy of Discipline or Corruption - Stanislavsky (HB/1st)on any of the sites - can anyone else help out - I wouldn't have thought it was scarce! I bought a copy yesterday (unfortunately library stamps all over the place - how can they DO that??)

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Is it 60's / 70's Russian? I have had a look for a couple of that era recently including a Solzenitzyn (?) to find prices and found that certainly on ebay there seems to be remarkably little - is it totally out of fashion or rare? ______________________________________________________________

He was Russian, this book is a rehash of his writing with contributions from other people which was puiblished for The Stanislavsky Institute. I can find some of his other works - but not this.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Could you please advise on this one - The Girl in the Red Coat ISBN 0340819065, print run 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2. First published in Great Britain by Hodder and Stoughton. On the title page is translated from the German by Margot Bettauer Dembo and Sceptre at the bottom. I have listed this as a 1/1 published by H and S but am having second thoughts.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Ok...it's my turn to look dim!

I've found a book which was printed in 1969. It came out in 1956 and it says 10th impression. Does this mean it's still a first edition?

Please don't shout at me!

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Patgal, take a look at the publication details. If it says that 'Sceptre' is a part of H&S then you are probably right. I have a feeling 'Sceptre' is a paperback imprint, so not a first edition but a first printing.

Badger, probably. But at that distance from the first appearance it isn't likely to have the collectors drooling.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi Sig - On catalogue page it states copyright 2000 Roma Ligocka. First published by Hodder & Stoughton, a division of Hodder Headline. Then on previous title page it just has Sceptre. All a bit confusing. However I have put all that into blurb with ISBN and print run so the potential buyers can make up their own minds. Thanks again.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi all - HEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPP!!!!

Im starting to think Im the only person in the world to ever read this book.

I cant remember the author, but it is a book called "FANTASTIC". Ive been trying to locate it on the web but cant find it anywhere.

Its about these superheroes who live in this house - the cover has a guy with a crash helmet on and a tablecloth as a cape, and another character, the mother, Im thinking thunder for some reason.

Its one of those books you read as a kid and really get into - I read it about a thousand times and want to get it again.

If anybody knows anything and can help, please get in touch!!

I REALLY WANT THIS BOOK!

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hope this is the right thread for this question.

My kids are very into Arthur Ransome.
I am looking for the last four
Big Six, Misee Lee, Pict & Martyrs, Great Northern
in paperback
My hassle is finding the best way to get all four ideally from the same dealer at a reasonable price and postage price (them not being very heavy)
Any Ideas? :-)

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi, I'm not a bookseller, but need to clear out some of my own books.
I doubt any are worth very much, but I want to make sure I list them accurately so any buyers get what they expect.
All the various numbers etc mean nothing to me,
I have hardback of A Gift of Dragons by Anne McAffrey, I'm confused because there is no number line or references to reprints etc, on the info page it says Published in 2003 by Bantam Press.
Do I advertise as a 1st ?
