DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi all, pippy_oak here, posting under my brand new user name. Hopefully, Richard will pin this thread, as it seems a nice tidy place to pose specific questions about a book (Is it a 1st edition, what's it worth, where to find it etc. etc.) Don't just come here with a question. If you think you have the answer, then let's hear it.

Or we could just mooch around and learn a few things.

Cheers

Paul

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

I knew it was food of some sort.

It is just one of those things that turn up in fantasy novels that really have no place being there.

Thanks. 🙂

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

I notice you suggest using the correct category/putting keywords etc into title line to attract the buyer. Expanding the title line is difficult when there are only 55? spaces. Also the question of category can be difficult. I am about to list BEFORE THE WAR: 1908-1939 by John Strickland Goodall. It says on d/j - not meant for publication as it was painted as a present for his wife. It depicts his life from birth as the only son of a Harley Street specialist right through to his enlistment at outbreak of war. It is a biography in paintings but how would I list this?
Also, I have just found a first print/first edition of Robert Holdstock's Merlin's Wood this I would put under Fantasy???
Finally, is there any chance that Philip Pullman would sign a paperback - it looked like a 3rd printing and I wouldn't know how to recognise his signature.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

I find keywords more important than categories. I don't always put the book title in the listing title.

The JS Goodall, I would list under non-fiction/ art & design/ artist illustrated. For a title, I would use JOHN STRICKLAND GOODALL 1981 ART BOOK 1ST ED.

I would list the Holdstock under fiction/ first editions/unsigned, with a title like ROBERT HOLDSTOCK MERLIN'S WOOD 1ST EDITION.

Here is a distant view of Philip Pullman's signature.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

MANOR HOUSE - many thanks again. I now intend to keep a litle notebook with all the tips I get from this thread. I sometimes think I ask the same question too often so perhaps this will help.
Glad I didn't buy the Pullman book. It was nothing like the one you put on.
