This might be the most unhelpful error message I have ever seen. Something is wrong? I've just been herded into this Simple Delivery scheme and have NO other option, so what am I supposed to do now?

I have the same problem, Ive been trying to resolve it for the last 10 hours.  It's ridiculous that I cant manually book the courier or choose to use a different service.  I think my eBay selling experience will be short and sweet.

There is nothing you can do but sit, wait and hope someone with a braincell and access to the back-end system will realise there's a problem and rollback whatever untested code caused the issue with labels.

There's no point in contacting CS (they haven't got a clue), there's no way of directly contacting the tech department and frankly there's no point in involving the Community Team because all they will do is pass a message on but they'll not tell you when the problem has been fixed.

Funny, but I was thinking about such an issue just the other day: eBay introduced a shipping service which (private) sellers must use. If sellers do not stick to the timescales given by eBay's equally shonky Estimated Delivery Date they are either penalised or the buyer ends up getting a freebie - they both keep the item and get a refund.

So what happens if the SD system goes down? Nothing, that's what. The seller is still supposed to adhere to the dispatch date shown (if they don't they get a black mark; collect enough and the seller's account is suspended) and the buyer still expects their item by the Estimated Delivery Date (if they don't get it they open an INR case and, quite possibly, get a refund before the item is actually delivered).

There is nothing you can do but hope someone spots and corrects the fault. Meantime the dispatch clock is ticking and the delivery date clock is ticking. Good luck. You'll all need it.

Same here. I've just actually been to my local Post Office which opens at 7am and they say there are no problems whatsoever within the Post Office mainframe so they don't know what the problem is but it's not with them. Also I've been bombarded this morning with messages telling me I've now been opted in to E-Bays Global Shipping Programme even though I don't want to be as I don't post abroad and when I try and opt out of it E-Bay won't let me! Can the two be related I wonder?

Odd,  because someone else has just written the opposite their PO yesterday , told them there is a Royal Mail issue, another member has posted this:

The business Click and Drop website is down since sometime last night. I assume this is related and eBay's RM labels are generated from the same domain.

Could be then it does lie with RM , and not all PO's seemingly  are updated with the tech issue.  Lets hope they deal with this asap.

Someone just posted that Business website for Royal Mail and Retail website are two separate entities which is possibly why local Post Office doesn't know about any Business issues.

Yep, I also saw this posted, see below,  it does explain perhaps why little PO's know nowt about the issue!  🤔

RM Click and Drop business domain is different to the retail site. The retail site is still working.

I assume ebay gets their labels generated via the business domain.

RM own C+D service checker claims the site is working correctly, but the website page shows it as down.

I should maybe reinstate EVRI, but I won't be able to sell on ebay with the potential of an issue like this. It's horrific. The item I sold is over £100, if it doesn't resolve this morning I shall have to try and cancel the transaction.

I recently went on Royal Mail itself and bought some labels, then attempted to drop off the orders at my local shop.

What’s interesting is that it didn’t scan through and it said there was an error with the addresses, I went to the PO after and they had no issues scanning in through though.

My comment isn’t probably that helpful, but just thought I’d pop in the above as my local shop has never had that issue before 👍

Great way to spend the Saturday morning btw lol

I've Been unable to post any of my sold items since yesterday which is making me look bad to buyers.

Also I noticed with simple delivery withRoyal Mail compensation is only £39.99 not £150 if I was able to book like I used to through the Royal Mail site.

I'm extremely unhappy with the situation and am look into other platforms to sell on.... normally I never look back.

Sorry Ebay you've pushed to far this time....

But isn’t it the case that Ebay take responsibility for the postage with Simple Delivery - the contract is between Ebay and say Royal Mail. Ebay send you the postage label that is appropriate for the item you are selling. If there is a problem with delivery the buyer is told to contact Ebay not the vendor.  So basically it is their responsibility with the new system (when it works...).

It was not possible to generate the label. Something is wrong. Please try again later.

eBay takes responsibility for the postage with Simple Delivery, subminman, in that an item is covered from the moment it is scanned into the system to when it is recorded as delivered.

And therein lies the problem: if the system does not produce a label for whatever reason - eBay down, Royal Mail down, links between the two down or any other reason - a seller cannot post anything and there is no record of anything being scanned into the system. Therefore Simple Delivery covers nothing and eBay's "responsibility" does not apply.

What does still apply, though, are the dispatch dates and the Estimated Delivery Dates generated by a completely different part of eBay's system - and the seller is still held liable if they miss them, regardless of any other part of the dispatch process being unavailable.

And despatch dates and handling time are another issue of mine that I resolved last night as the "system" had turned on Business Policies on my account and I was unable to change the SD handling time from default of 2 to a better 3, no option available. All sorted when I opted out of Business Policies.
