Description not displaying on my items.

When am checking my items for sale, the descriptions keep disappearing is anyone else having this issue it's annoying because buyers can't see it before buying it can cause problems.

As a buyer looking for items on eBay I am having the same problem. The item description on recent potential purchases is just showing a blank item description box. It started to happen yesterday. I use an android tablet and never had this issue before.

Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.

Is totally blank - including the Item Specifics.

Do we get refunds / compensation from ebay for the listings, as bidding will be limited if the buyers dont have the information to make a judgement on ?

I believe customers deserve to be kept  a breast of unforeseen issues which affect them.

If you are seeing a blank seller description, try manually clearing just your eBay cookies.

if it was just me fine - how do i communicate that instruction to all potential bidders? The comments in thread 5 were from regular buyers.

Isn't it ebays issue to address when its such a wide audience?

Surely if i post a message on , say , social media about clearing cookies, wouldn't that put ebay in an even worse light?

This problem has happened to me today.

Listed a  item but then unable to read item description.

Checked my other listings- 1 was visible but other item descriptions were just blank spaces.

Looked at other random listings and found unable to read description on most of them.

Tried Ebay robot answers but that was useless 

Its almost reassuring that others are having same issue.

The thing is its not just my own listings that are not showing descriptions it's others as well just getting a blank box, it's been fine until a few days ago, I mean that's the most important thing that buyers can see what's in that box. eBay keep messing about with the layouts when they fine the way it was.

Ave tried clearing cookies and even logged in and out just nothing showing up in description box

If anyone from eBay is reading this take notice it's a few people this must be something you have done and it must be a technical issue with them , they need to get it fixed asap, because if guys your selling it can cause problems and effect sales.

eBay do not come onto these boards to read the posts .....   unfortunately.

This is an issue which is affecting some sellers some of the time, some none of the time, some all of the time.

We are told that eBay do know of this technical issue,  and are working on it,  but to date,  no date as to when it can be Permanently fixed.

It has affected some members for some time now,  you are not alone.

I tried what you suggested and  I've checked a few listings I was previously looking at and I can now see the description. Hopefully this has solved it but other people are still having problems Thanks for your help.

If you encounter someone having that problem, feel free to share it with them. You just might make someone's day, though not everyone appreciates learning about a workaround, apparently.

For most users, cookies will be overwritten automatically -- if not immediately, then at some future point, and the problem will either never happen at all or else it will just go away. Others may try another browser, or the app, and get around the problem that way.

Or eBay may change something on eBay's end to deal with the issue. But I would not necessarily hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Do you work for eBay's PR department? Because I sure don't.

Having a robust community of users offering suggestions and workarounds, asking and answering questions and generally helping each other to use the site more effectively is a benefit to eBay users.

Im sorry for being curt in my response to you- i know your help is useful, its ebay who merit displeasure for their actions / lack of - always gripes me when you consider how well we sellers pay ebay for a  lack lustre service.

Ive been looking into this and I haven't been able to replicate the issue, I'm seeing both the description and specifics on any items I view. There was an issue with item specifics not showing on the app but this was resolved a couple of days ago. 

@eburtonlabs suggestion of clearing cache and cookies usually resolves issues like this. If you've tried that and you're still seeing the issue, can you send me as much of the following as possible so I can investigate further:

A screenshot of the issue

The item number

Where you are seeing the issue ( app or PC/laptop)

What browser you're using

As it appears to be a changing random ebay problem - the evidence may not be obvious to provide to you.

The section to the south of ' Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.' to 

'Business seller information'

 showed as blank.

One of the affected listings was 'eBay item number:386530684147'

These two messages came from regular bidders of mine.

With regard to the cache clearing, do you have a wording we should use to send to each and every potential bidder - either within the listings (assuming they show) or probably better on social media.

It was a shame that no monitoring staff were available over the weekend when this problem was detectedso they could have viewed the issue personally.

Thanks for the above, I was able to replicate it with that item number on Edge but strangely not on Chrome. 

Clearing Cache and Cookies fixed for me so it does seem to be the cause of the issue, hopefully it resolves it for everyone.

Here's the steps I took, Ive also added the steps for different browsers. It might help with anyone having the issue:

Keep in mind if you delete cookies, you might get signed out of sites that remember you, and your saved preferences could be deleted. This applies any time a cookie is deleted.

For Edge

1. In Edge, select Settings and more  in the upper right corner of your browser window. 

2. Select Settings  > Privacy, search, and service

3. Select Choose what to clear under Clear browsing data > Clear browsing data now.

4. Under Time range, choose a time range from the list.

5. Select Cookies and other site data, and then select Clear now.

6. All your cookies and other site data will now be deleted for the time range you selected. This signs you out of most sites. 

For Chrome:

1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click More  Settings 
3. Click Privacy and security  Third-party cookies. Tip: If you are part of the Tracking Protection test group, select Tracking Protection instead.
4. Click See all site data and permissions  Delete all data.
5. To confirm, click Delete.

For Safari:

1. Go to Settings > Safari.

2. Tap Clear History and Website Data.

For the App:

Clear the Apps Cache

1. Open your device's Settings app.
2. Find Apps or Application manager (depending on your device, this may be different, possibly under "more" settings).
3. On the list, tap the eBay app. 
4. Find  Storage.
5. Tap Clear cache.

Clear the Apps Data

1. Open your device's Settings app.
2. Tap Apps or Application manager (depending on your device, this may be different).
3. On the list, tap the eBay app.
4. Find Storage.
5. Tap Clear data.

many thanks for that Dave - i can see its quite long winded to publish on social media for all potential bidders, but ill give it a go once ive worded an introduction outlining the reason why all ebay users need to address the problem.

Many months ago i conversed with you regarding auction count downs jumping between 2 and seven seconds - giving a false end time, and indeed the 'end' bid and allotted bidder, not necessarily actually winning the auction - ive lost long time regular customers who questioned the integrity of the auction function - at the time you requested a screen shot - which i dont have the skills to perform, but each and every auction i run exhibits the same flaw - including the item number i gave you for the 'blank description' problem. Possibly you could address this long term issue too.

It seems to be working now descriptions now showing, I messaged a buyer who bought one of my items asked if they could see and read the of descriptions because were having technical problems seeing the descriptions, But he confirmed that yeah the buyer could see the descriptions box, but it seems it's been resolved as it is showing a mean am not bothered if I can see my own or not as long as the buyers can that's the main thing.
