App not working, says update and won't. Just stuck in a loop of trying to update and it saying it has the latest version. Whatever you did put it back the way it was

No one here did anything to the app we are all members here like yourself.
An eBay Community Manager has advised us that:
The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.
If you are using OS android 10 and above and still have issues with viewing images on the app please let me know. State what version you use and type of device and I'll have it looked into further by tech.

is it fair to say though that the current app does not take into account people not affording to update their phones every 2 years I only pay £11 a month on sim-only now my contract is up, my other apps like gumtree HSBC and nationwide still work

Hi, I have the same issue. Its stuck in a loop. The play store only has an app dated december 2023, as mentioned already.
There is no known technical fault update from ebay so assuming they have meant to cut god knows how many customers off from the app??
This can't be right?

been onto chat help and they have had lots of complaints so tech have been informed, wait and see unless ebay wants to send out free new phones on expensive contracts

Thanks @bojangled ,
Hi All,
I did advise of the following to other users experiencing this issue.
"The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. "
We have made tech aware of the number of users reporting this issue since yesterday and there is a current open ticket with them. If you haven't already stated your android version and type of device please let me know so I can add this information to the ticket.
Thank you,
Kat

Agree with Bojangled
I have iphone running on IOS16. Apple says I have the latest update, (understand there is IOS17 but it is not available for me to download yet) no access at all to ebay app nor via website if on the same device.

I did uninstall my current eBay app, restarted phone and managed to install a compatible earlier version from App Store.
I don’t actually need bells and whistles in the app, just sales notifications and messages.
Listing on the app is like unravelling a tangled ball of wool for me.

I cant believe they did this without warning people now all i can do is use my laptop. i cant even use it on my phone even when i use this internet on my phone to sign into ebay instead of the app it just sends me to the app where they tell me i need an update which isnt provided. i think ebay need to realise that poor people exist and people whos phone is not something they upgrade all the time as a status symbol rather than the phone being obsolete every two years which is bull. my phone is old it works it worked yesterday with the ebay app till someone today at ebay ruined my day. thanks ebay.

If you cannot upgrade your operating system or find an older version of the app that works with your current operating system, you should still be able to use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk instead.
If eBay browser links are opening in the Android version of the app automatically, you can disable that by going to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Opens supported links and choosing "Don't open in the app". iOS users can tap and hold an eBay browser link and choose "Don't open in the app".

Hi All,
Tech have confirmed the latest report of the app not working is not a technical issue. Sometimes, to ensure that you are using the latest version of eBay, we require you to update your app version. Please uninstall and reinstall your app, and then log back into eBay as normal. That should rectify the situation. If this does not work, you may need to upgrade your OS version and then reinstall the eBay app. In the meantime, you can also access ebay.co.uk via your desktop or mobile web browser.
Thank you
Kat
