Item that is not SOLD still take from the monthly selling allowance.

I have recently posted a laptop for sale which attracted some attention. Someone decided to buy the item, but first requested an invoice for the purchase, which I sent. The user then requested my PayPal email to send/request the money directly to which I responded that "If you wish to purchase the item, ou have to pay through eBay." But the user went silent and after no reply I cancelled the transaction and gave the reason that the "Buyer attempted to take the transaction outside of ebay". However, I am now unable to relist the item because it still counts towards my monthly selling allowance, despite not selling the item. I have requested a case to be looked into the situation and either have the item removed form the "SOLD" list to not take away from ym monthly allowance, or simply increase my alowance so that I can relist the item again. The case has been closed with no answer.

Just to add that the 'buyer' was almost certainly a criminal gang, which is why your message was met with silence. These gangs trawl Ebay and the internet looking for sellers of electronics and other high-value items. Newbie sellers are targetted, and especially those who use an inappropriate postage service as that shows inexperience as a seller. If you'd supplied them with your PayPal address, you'd have received a fake payment confirmation email purporting to be from PayPal, telling you it was safe to ship the goods. Even after all these years, this common scam still works a treat, because many sellers fail to check their PayPal accounts to see if the money is actually there. Which, of course, it isn't.

You don't need to send a buyer an invoice. Ebay does this automatically, and the buyer can also pay from the transaction in their Purchase History. The only time this might be necessary is if the buyer is not in the UK, and your account was not properly set to block or accept international bidders.

In future, open an Unpaid Item case (which you can do after 2 full days), and close as 'unpaid' after 4 full days. That will credit the selling fee back to your Ebay account. You can then either offer the item to the underbidder if there is one, or relist (but add the non-payer's ID to your Blocked Bidders List first). And make sure you list with appropriate postage. If you buy the wrong service, one which doesn't cover the value of the item, the carrier won't pay out a sous in the event of loss or damage in transit, but you will have to refund the buyer in full. Check too that the item is not on your chosen carrier's 'exemption' list - not everything is insurable.
