I sold a dvd for £3.70 incl postage and was charged 87p fees using the new Ebay payment management service. This equates to 23.5% !     I was led to believe that using ebay payment service rather than Paypal management service would be more profitable. Can anyone tell me how much i would have received if i had stuck with Paypal and is there a way to switch back to Paypal payment managements ? Thank you.

Under MP, you pay ebay 12.8% +30p.

DVD sold for £3.70 = 47p + 30p =77p, not sure where get 87p.

Right i have been given the maths by ebay chat customer rep..you were close ! Here is what ive been told;

Your final value fee is £0.57p because of the 20% vat for the fee. Calculation is £3.70 x 12.8% = 0.4736p 0.4736p x 20%(vat) = 0.09472p 0.4736p + 0.09472 =0.56832 or £0.57p final value (rounded up) + £0.30p fixed fee = £0.87p

the 30p fixed fee should be scrapped for low price listings..and also the 20% vat added to the final value fee otherwise low price listings are not going to be worth the time and the energy.

Private sellers don't pay VAT on fees, it is included.

Private seller fees ,which you are include VAT in the 12.8% and 30p so eBay CS are wrong yet again
Business sellers pay 9.9%+30p+VAT in dvd category

i have an email transcript of the chat and it states 20%...i am not nor have i ever been a buisness seller. What should i do ? Ps i have just looked at my seller profile and it does not say buisness seller.....The ebay rep i have been in touch with is called Maricar and his maths do add up...but are they adding 20% vat onto all private  sellers final value fees ? or have they made a mistake ?

I have just spoken via chat to Margesh who has confirmed what Maricar told me that all private sellers now have 20% vat added to the final value fee. The 20% vat was what was throwing me as i can find no mention of it in sellers fees or my monthly statement..i was going by 12.8% + 30p = 77p not 87p which is what they charged. Had i remained with paypal then my combined ebay paypal fee would have been 78p so 9p difference,

To add to the confusion i have now sold another 5 dvds and have not been charged 20% vat on any of the 5 sales. So it appears that i have been charged 10p too much on the £3.70(88p) sale and then given a wrong explanation by customer service rep Maricar. Saying that though the maths he gave me added up. but my next 5 sales have worked out at 12.8% +0.30p as mentioned by tobias04. Ebay owe me 10p and a proper explanation. According to ebay customer service rep i will receive an email from there taxation team within the next 48 hours.

was the purchaser of the first item registered overseas?


if so, the extra is the increased fee for processing an overseas payment

Ebay have said there was a technical problem and refunded me 23p for over charging on two items. They paid the 23p straight into my bank account..the lowest deposit ever !
