Hi,. the vat is coming out on eBay produced vat invoices as £0.00.

Only just noticed, although the listings have the vat 20% box checked the invoices are showing vat as £0.00. Any one know why that changed and how i can change it back to calculating the vat?

I had a call with eBay about this today.

We're a VAT registered company and have been selling on eBay for 10 years or so.

Each morning we print out our invoices, one copy for the customer and one for us breaking down the price showing the VAT element. It's worked fine for 10 years.

Yesterday the vat shows as £0.00 on every invoice produced. I called eBay - got a callback from the foreign call centre and was categorically tols that as we're a UK seller, selling products to UK residents we don't charge VAT. According to eBay all domestic sales are zero rated and we only charge VAT on exports.

I tried to politely point out they've got this the wrong way round and would they kindly implemement the correct format on the invoices again. 

They just didn't get it. It didn't matter how many times I told them this was nothing to do with BREXIT, they were convinced that domestic sales are VAT free.

Same response for us! Amazed that a company such as eBay cannot grasp this and have adjusted things ass about backwards!

Also, VAT to European customers now showing as 20% which should now be 0%. Now annoying customers who are quite rightly questioning why they have paid VAT in the UK and then paid VAT again on importation!

I am an ebay seller for over 10 years I am based in the UK and I sell on the UK market I have VAT UK and LTD, but despite all the first sales made on eby with destination UK customers Ebay took me 20% VAT, now I ask they will pay it them in my place at HMRC ?? this is not clear to me I asked in chat to an ebay operator and he told me that everything is regular to me it seems so not. Meanwhile, the first sales have already taxed me

Update. spoke to eBay 2 days ago and they said there has already been a case raised for the issue that started this Monday 4th.
I'm still having the issue, doesn't seem to affect money or reports. More of an admin error on the invoices.

Hi I started having the problem on January 1st and to date it has not yet been solved despite having contacted them 3 times, today I spoke to my accountant and he told me that if ebay does not solve the problem I still have to pay to HMRC vat and sue ebay for stealing money that belongs to the government, and then we give customers an incorrect invoice the total is different from what they paid, and someone can create problems

Once again this evening on another sale made in UK ebay took me the VAT of 20% npn it is no longer possible to work with incompetent and unprepared people.

That sounds as it should be, as VAT is inclusive in the price you charge.

You want it to be 0% as otherwise you are paying/charging VAT on VAT.

Sorry its maybe the way I wrote that, VAT is inclusive and the invoice printing option I use is 'Invoice template with VAT separately displayed ' so it should display the amount of vat included in the full price. but it shows this:
Net total £12.90
VAT amount £0.00
Seller discounts (-) or charges (+): £0.00
Total incl. VAT £12.90

On the invoice the item line also shows that there is 0 amount of VAT.

So the price you actually want to charge the buyer is 12.90 + 20%, i.e £15.48? The way ebay are doing it means you will have to declare £2.05 to HMRC, leaving you with £10.75. This seems to be another ebay glitch, but one that hits sellers directly in their pockets.

The price is correct on the invoice. So the above example I would expect the invoice to read something like:
Net total £10.75
VAT amount £2.15
Seller discounts (-) or charges (+): £0.00
Total incl. VAT £12.90

But it doesn't. I know for sure it used to!
