a.i. descriptions are rubbish

So 'A.I' (so-called artificial intelligence) has found its way into ebay listings - but it's rubbish! It tells you nothing about the condition of an item, or its function - it just puts together a load of waffle based on the item specifics. Nothing 'intellegent' about it at all - just a quick fix for lazy sellers!

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

On the up side, in my line of business, it often indicates that they don't know what they're selling. Sometimes it goes well and I can grab a bargain on a 'best offer', sometimes it means they're deluded and after fully working prices for a parts only unit and won't move on that.
Either way the AI descriptions are at best cheesy and often cringe worthy, back to the 70's it is then!

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

I do, no way any sane person would use this, but at the same time ebay take lots of money from us in selller fees to develop this *bleep* and are of no help to the seller when things go wrong. I'd rather just bypass the horse manure and keep the fees down.

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

I contacted a seller about her inaccurate AI description.  She was aware of the issues with AI but said she would continue to use it because the keywords it generates  improves visibility. 🤷🏼‍

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

I think eBay needs to introduce another section inside listings for 2nd hand items that specifically asks to detail item condition and what is included in the sale....and which does not have an AI option to fill it.

This way sellers can't blame AI for inaccuracies.

(Big props to eBay for removing fees for private sellers. Superb move)

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

I HATE THE AI DESCRIPTIONS. THEY DRIVE ME NUTS. SO CORNY AND JUST MAKES IT HARDER TO FIND THE INFO YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.  WORST IDEA EVER!!!

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

Totally agree with you. Not only is it corny but more often than not it is inaccurate as well. Some sellers seem to have so much faith in AI that they don't even bother to read the description before submit the listing.

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

I do not buy from any seller using A.I. descriptions - often there is nothing  about the condition of the item etc.

Those using it are  actually  "feeding" A.I.

Simply cannot trust anything it states, as it takes " bits" from descriptions of those selling the same items .

We are encouraged by Ebay to give full descriptions so that the potential buyer knows what they are getting and to prevent any come back.  A.I. is an open opportunity for buyers to claim " not as described."

A.I. descriptions offer nothing other than  stylised , nondescript, vacuous monotony!

 In my opinion.

I have had loads of comments like yours but eBay don't see them and i don't think they take notice of feedback.doreen

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

Better than a 2-door car where you have to lift the front seats forward so passengers can get into the back seats. Not all passengers are fully able-bodied. But I'm sure AI would manage to spin having 2 doors as being an advantage!

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

Ebay are always asking for feedback on particular aspects of the system, especially when they change something. So they couldn’t get any better than reading the comments that are left on the forum. And it’s all honest and current. Wake up and smell the coffee ebay. Snoozing is losing. 🥺

As a buyer AI descriptions tell me nothing useful and put me off purchasing the item

As a seller I would be embarrassed to include a rubbish AI descriptions in my listings - sheer laziness

Re: a.i. descriptions are rubbish

Your answer misses the point. As a buyer the AI generated descriptions are worse than useless.
