Re: simple delivery and lost item

You don't need to.

If an item is lost- the buyer opens a case with ebay for Item not arrived.

ebay will refund the buyer themselves - you keep the sale proceeds.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

If you are the seller,  then eBay will refund the buyer,  and you get to keep the payout,  so claiming again from Royal Mail ( not your post office)  would be asking in effect, for 2 refunds.

Royal Mail wouldn't allow you to claim for an item sent with an eBay Simple Delivery label.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

If you’re using eBay Simple Delivery, you can’t claim directly from the Post Office/Royal Mail yourself. If an item goes missing, the buyer must open a “Not Received” case, after which eBay typically refunds the buyer automatically. eBay will then handle the investigation and any compensation with the courier. As the seller, you do not need to file a claim and you usually keep the sale proceeds, while eBay manages the loss on your behalf.

If it wasn’t sent using Simple Delivery and you used your own postage, then you can claim directly from Royal Mail once the item has been confirmed as lost.

Just to clarify, it's the buyer that opens the case when the seller uses Simple Delivery.  Sellers can't open cases.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

Just made my first ever ebay sale, and probably my last. Simple delivery is anything but. Ebay under charged the postage and put my wrong return address on the label. (OK the latter was sort of my fault for not realising I had to add my new address manually in about 4 places. Naively I thought that changing it on my account would change it everywhere.) So I didn't use the Simple Delivery label but posted it tracked myself. But will ebay let me tell them or enter the new tracking number? Will they heck. So not sure if I'll ever get paid, although at least I've  honoured the buyer. Looks like it might be bye bye payment and bye bye ebay!

Re: simple delivery and lost item

In what way did "Ebay under charged the postage"? If ebay suggest the postage rate when listing, and the packaged item is under the absolute maximum weight and size for the carriers SD items, then the ebay provided label was fine.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

Ebay gave me a label for £2.72, despite me giving the correct details about the item. The correct postage  cost is £2.85. I was concerned that the recipient would be  charged excess postage.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

£2.72 is the correct price for a Simple Delivery Royal Mail 1kg large letter under £100.

Simple delivery prices are different to what you would pay buying postage elsewhere.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

Thanks. I wish I'd known this. Shame it doesn't say it a bit more up front. But because the return address was wrong I probably still wouldn't have risked it.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

That`s what I thought, but I have just had a case where a Buyer claimed Item Not Delivered, (under Simple Delivery), and eBay found in the Buyers favor and refunded them out of my account! I contacted an Agent who told me that this was correct. So I appealed the case, and eBay then refunded me! So the lesson here is that the `Bot` (and Agent), does not always get it right.

Re: simple delivery and lost item

There's actually 5 addresses https://accountsettings.ebay.co.uk/uas/addresses

If you don't use the Simple Delivery label, you should still get paid (if there are no issues e.g. a case) - it will likely take longer (around 14 days) and it may have taken longer anyway (e.g. 30 days) being your first sale.

It looks like it was free delivery for the buyer i.e. you paid for the Simple Delivery label. If so, you can try and claim the Simple Delivery label cost back at https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller

Re: simple delivery and lost item

Hi,

This has happened to me with 2 items going missing at the same time.

Disputes have been raised by the buyers however eBay hasn’t stepped in to refund. Don’t know why?

Thanks in advance.

Are you absolutely sure they were sent by Simple Delivery?

What sort of disputes were they?

Re: simple delivery and lost item

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. My item got lost too via simple delivery and eBay refunded the buyer from my account. When I try to appeal, I am not allowed to for some reason. Please can you let me know how did you appeal so I can do the same to claim my money back as it's not my fault. See attached for detail. Thanks

Re: simple delivery and lost item

If the original payment has not cleared yet then the refund would come out of your payment source. Once the original payment clears you get it back.

Thank screenshot you've posted indicates that eBay have refunded, not you.

To come at this from a different angle here.....

If I've understood this correctly, is this not just a scammers perfect set up?

I buy from you. I get my item, thank you very much, but I say it never turned up.

I claim, eBay give me a refund, I now have your item for free & eBay take no money off you.

You've got your money. I've got a free item. Win-Win yet wrong.

I'm hoping I've not understood correctly because that's a very bad setup if so.
