ebay fees

It has come to my attention that eBay imposes additional charges amounting to 4% if a seller's metrics are high. I find this practice to be unfair and akin to taking money unnecessarily. We already pay promotion fees even if we do not generate any orders. Furthermore, we incur monthly fees, transaction fees, and promotion fees, and on top of that, there is an additional 4% charge. It seems that eBay is no longer a seller-friendly platform.

I think this has been the case for a long time now.  You get a 10% discount on fees if you offer Premium Service, and the 4% surcharge if your metrics drop as you've mentioned.  Because eBay wants it's sellers to provide a good service.

Now, for me, if your metrics drop it's normally a sign that things are struggling in the business so getting a fee increase is far from helpful- but it's there to provide a disincentive to give poor service.

I've narrowly escaped this a few times over the years, all I can say is keep a close eye on your metrics and if they start creeping into a bad place it's time to knuckle down because pulling yourself back out again is going to be tricky.

If the problem is due to late deliveries, consider using tracked delivery as that will boost your metrics.  And always ship on time.  If you can't ship on time then extend your shipping window.

All the best and good luck.

On a tangent, I noticed your About page is written for Amazon, you may want to edit that for eBay 🤔

As another, many of their primary images contain payment options.

1) it isn’t necessary because eBay appt the relevant payment methods to the page elsewhere and 2) they don’t accept Amex anymore anyway

back on topic I fail to see how it’s unfair. You would have been aware of the fees in place when you started selling (and they’ve been doing the carrot and stick approach to FVF for a few years now. EBay don’t want under par sellers on their marketplace. If you fall under their metrics, there’s two choices…work harder to get back to par or don’t sell on eBay. Both of which end up benefitting eBay.
