Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Hi I've just received this message contacted ebay and is being sent to everyone

That's me I'm done no more ebay for me bye bye

We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold” on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.

I don't blame you, this is a disgrace.  Ebay expect private sellers to send out items before they have got the money for them.  In what way is this fair?  What happens if they get lost in the post?  What happens if your courier won't give you recompense?  I am beyond annoyed about this.  Granted, there are dishonest sellers on Ebay and buyers need to be protected from them - but not at the expense of honest sellers who aren't even businesses.  It's just plain wrong.

From Vinted as the post says.

Yeah I shop on vinted a LOT and end up paying a 20%+ markup on top of the item price for low value items. The fees initially sound low, but often are much higher than you would expect, especially for low value items because of the way they calculate it.

For example, I bought a second hand dress for £3.00 but I paid £3.85 due to the buyer protection fee which is a 28% increase on the item price. (Plus £4.00 postage on top.)

Everything will just end up costing a little more and I'm sure it will put some buyers off.

I can only presume this is an interest spinning method for them to make a few extra quid. The amusing thing for me was the “improving things for private sellers”

this is in no way an improvement for private sellers 😅

I use tracked 48 for everything I sell but it just feels like I’m a brand new seller again with no trust.

Maybe now people will take a stand, but probably not.

Maybe I misread something.

*edit*

just looked into it, you can opt out when creating the listing.

my pastime is jigsawing.  I sell them when completed for usually £3 + postage which makes them dearer than charity shops but i do sell a few.  I sell them on the car boot for £2.50 and for obvious reasons i actually sell most of them that way.   None of these new changes will benefit myself or the buyers and i can see sales for low value items completely disappearing and as a buyer i understand why.

As a 20+year user as both buyer and private seller on this platform this latest shift change doesn't instill much encouragement, the goal posts have moved once too often.

I won't repeat those points previously made by other user comments, those have been clearly covered but having dealt with all sorts of shenanigans from some truly diabolical individuals from non payers, deal welchers, scammers and general time wasters I fear this just provides more ammunition to the less than honourable customer and hobbles the private sellers ability to continue selling with confidence, particularly those bigger ticket items.

It's too much of a risk on first glance.

To await funds only after confirmation of receipt of sent goods you must be out of your gourd.

At the moment you do. But in February you won’t be able to do that because you won’t get the funds until the item is delivered!

I completely agree.

I'm mainly selling very low value items at very  low cost. I passed the recent removal of fees onto buyers but with the introduction of the "buyer protection fees" these items will now be more expensive than they were before the fee removal.

And then I have to wait for the money from ebay.

Everyone's a loser. Madness.

This new payment thing is ridiculous! If your item isn't tracked you'll have to wait 14 days!!!! not only that but they are adding fees for buyers similar to vinted. Ebay going to lose loads of custom. Fees for buyers + higher postage cost for buyers = lower sales. lower sales = seller leave eBay. EBay HATE sellers,  always stick up for the buyers but now buyers are going to deal with eBays *bleep*py policies with the new fees.

The fees are only for private sellers. It will push buyers to buy from properly registered businesses, as you won't pay the fee for purchases from business sellers. Seeing as your username actually includes the word "resell" that suggests that YOU should be registered as a business, so it won't impact your sales if you register correctly and legally!

I never buy postage labels from ebay, nor use their simple delivery.  I send everything tracked

anyway from the post office.

But the rules change is madness...

Thank you for clarifying.

I use eBay labels now for the tracked 48hr service.

Will be interesting price comparison when this rolls out.

I don’t see a winner for buyers or sellers here currently.
