Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Hi I've just received this message contacted ebay and is being sent to everyone

That's me I'm done no more ebay for me bye bye

We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold” on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

You could try Discogs to sell your vinyl...

Personally, I'll just stop using eBay to sell stuff. I used to sell camera and audio gear that I was no longer using. Some of it would be expensive, over £2k. No chance at all am I going to send anything anywhere without receiving the money first when the item is expensive. I'll just trade it in when I buy something new.

So, in that regard the rule changes will not effect me to greatly (for selling / or not as the case will be) but it will result in less money for eBay in terms of fees etc.

As for buying... I use a few trusted sellers for tube / valve purchases but everything else I'll just get from Amazon from now on. Thankfully, I get to choose who I hand my money to.

Agreed! What is really worrying me is that, as I read the email from Ebay,
they will automatically increase the price of stuff on sale to cover the
"buyer protection" (which of course buyers already have under consumer law)
BUT it is incorporated into the price and so buyers will simply think
prices have increased and that this is down to the seller.

The thing is that buyers don't actually have any protection under consumer law when buying from private sellers.  Consumer law is all about private individuals buying from businesses.

The money back guarantee takes that further, but perhaps that will change too?

I've had items refunded where the buyer didn't receive them and I'm a private seller.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

That is because eBay offers buyers eBay Buyer Protection which guarantees buyers a refund if they don't receive their item

Both business AND private sellers have to refund when a buyer doesn't receive an item

This has always been the case since eBay started.

It is an eBay policy that gives buyers additional protection over and above their consumer rights when  buying on eBay.

I think you have to wait for the buyer to say they have received the item - Basically everything sellers send will have to be sent by some sort of TRACKED method - No more standard posting.

No, payment will be automatically released 14 days after the date of sale (subject to any other payment holds of course).

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

eBay has to make you Laugh all things were fine for for 16 years under PayPal.

The last four years gone to pot who ever you got running eBay and dreams these things up your p45

is Waiting for you.If you are a buyer or a seller or Both of course its gonna hit you..

As a buyer will not be paying extra fees on top simple as eBay , Buyer is King I will shop on the river

eBay you are a third party nothing more nothing less always have been and always will be.

If I was a private seller there would be no chance I would wait more than two days for my money

not a chance in hell and defiantly would not be sending (MY) goods without payment.

But then we are old school sellers,Better off doing car boots etc less stress and a bit of fun as well..

eBay's worst enemy is eBay!!

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

That's my understanding as well.

It's not that the buyer doesn't have to pay until there is proof of delivery - they will still pay up front.

However, ebay will now hold onto funds until either the item is marked as delivered OR 14 days from the date the item sold.

I'm not a fan of this system but there's a lot of misinformation on this thread already where people seem to be implying buyers will be able to withhold payment until an item arrives - or that the buyer will have to mark it as arrived. That's not the case - it's ebay who will be holding the money (and making interest from it) until either delivery is confirmed through tracking or 14 days has passed.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Dispatch within 2-3 days I think I read. So a seller who posts items once a week will be forced to change that. I dispatch next day if possible so it won't effect me. The quicker dispatched, the quicker it will be delivered. But the 2 day hold at least means 5 days wait for the payment at best.

Ebay will be finished after this.

25 years I've been on Ebay, but this is the last month I will be using it.

There  are many who can only post once a week due to other commitments... how is that  going to work?

Yes, lots of misinformation as usual, unfortunately, as can be seen by posts 168 to 170 - 3 different answers to the same question, the person who asked that question is probably totally confused now!

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

The information in the sent e-mail just said this:

"Now, to give your buyers even more confidence when shopping, UK-based private sellers will be paid after item delivery, from 4 Feb. Your funds will be available in your eBay balance two days after delivery confirmation.*** We know it's important to get your money fast, so we recommend using a tracked delivery service either through Simple Delivery, or arranging for local collection."

Under the "learn more" link I also found this:

  • For tracked deliveries, the seller will receive payment 2 calendar days after eBay receives confirmation from the tracked delivery service that it was successful.
  • For local pick-up, the seller will receive payment when you exchange the 6 digit code or QR code with your seller.
  • If the item includes Authenticity Guarantee, the seller will receive payment after the item is successfully authenticated.
  • For items sent via the Global Shipping Programme, the seller will receive payment after the item is delivered to the UK Shipping Centre.
  • For untracked deliveries, or tracked deliveries with no delivery confirmation, the seller will receive payment 14 days from the order date.

This may also relevant:

"If you request a return or if there's a problem with the order, we'll wait until the issue is resolved before we release funds to the seller. If funds have already been released before you request a return, and the seller offers returns, you can ask the seller for a refund. Additional payment holds may apply."

Full info is actually here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/paying-items/buyer-protection-fee?id=5594

The 14 days appears to apply only to non-tracked items. AFAIK, there is no way for eBay to know that a non-tracked item has arrived unless the buyer indicates this somehow. For tracked items, unless something goes wrong, the tracking information usually is automatically updated.

I agree to a point. These are eBay rules so therefore they are the ones withholding funds, but it is not difficult to envisage situations when goods are sent by non-tracked means, that the seller will end up waiting 14 days whether through an inadvertent (buyer forgets) or deliberate (can't be bothered or calculated response) omission on the part of the buyer. The answer, as some have pointed out, would be to always send by tracked means. You then get your funds within 24 hours of the tracking information being updated to 'Delivered'.
