Sad day…..
My father, and his brother, bequeathed me a huge huge vintage paperback book & comic collection, for over 15 years now I’ve had great fun restoring books & selling paperbacks for a few quid a pop. It really really became quite a weekend hobby and I found it very therapeutic. I’ve sold to collectors, the BBC drama department….even someone who was looking for a mystery novel their grandfather wrote in 1957….
The money I made…not much, and EBay always took a fair percentage, went towards spending money for summer holidays with the boys.
Alas, in light of today’s announcement(s) it has come to an end.
I’ve made a decision and cancelled all current bids & removed all listings.
Be in no doubt, EBay’s latest scam (following on from their misleading ‘free to sell’ announcement in October) is abhorrent, driven by sheer corporate greed and unscrupulous practices….ebay have deliberately made it impossible to fairly operate….all because, not being content with a modest percentage as before, they want you to pay more and more….and now more….
Sad it is but must accept it’s time to move on and explore other options and different platforms…..and hope that maybe a new auction site arises to comfortably and reasonably accommodate the millions EBay has now shunned….

Me too. It used to give me genuine pleasure selling on the
items that I'd collected to other enthusiasts.
But I got the email this morning and I am currently looking - hard - for alternatives to eBay
right now.
I've been privately selling low cost (vintage) clothing items - with 2nd class UK postage
quite happily for the last year.
I have a few loyal customers who often buy 10 items or more together,
to avail themselves of reduced postage.
I simply cannot see them forking out an additional £10, nor paying for
tracked delivery (which would now seem to be a necessity, to
protect yourself from fraudulent 'item not received' claims).
I understand that eBay has to turn a profit - and could probably
suck up not being paid for 14 days so they can earn interest -
but fees on top is positively usurious.
Everybody loses.

…..but….EBay do turn a profit….quite a considerable profit….but that’s not good enough for them….✌️

And here we are…….

I have terminal blood cancer with diagnosis of 5 to 10 years longevity from diagnosis in 2017.
As a collector I had a large coin collection, ceramics, autographed pictures and other collectables I have picked up over the decades. Thus over last few years I have been selling off so my wife isn’t stuck with the hassle.
Seeing the announcements today I’m glad I have sold 90%of my collections off already so my wife didn’t have these complexities in selling in the future.
I will now give up selling on eBay and de-list anything I have listed in next two weeks.
Will probably send what I have left to local auction houses.
As a buyer - I will not pay 4% plus 75p for privilege of buying from eBay when I don’t pay such fees on Amazon;

That’s such a sad outcome, so sorry to hear of your condition….🙏
