Where have the Buyers gone?

Where is everyone?  Sales have dropped drastically sine the introduction of this new buyer fee tax and I find this really depressing to be honest.

This site is turning into a digital Graveyard, no actually there's more life in a Graveyard than on Ebay lately.

Sad how everything's gone.

As the Buyer's Fees put you off buying from Private sellers?

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Where to start, the BPF, promoted listings and the convoluted changes they keep making to the site and technical glitches. The update to their app which requires Andriod 10 or later to use it, or a more up to date version of the iOS will be another reason. I've an older version of Android, every other app I use is compatible with it, except eBay.

I'm guessing millions of users will have been prevented from using the eBay app because it's no longer compatible with their phones. Less people on the site browsing equals less sales.

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

I am watching 27 sellers on my watch list , out of them 27 sellers only 11 are selling , some of them are business sellers

I have defo notice sales have fallen and buyers have stopped buying due to buyer protection fee`s

Also listings have taken a massive HIT

In my 20 years of selling and sometimes buying Ive never seen so many negative comments both on here and social media Facebook , eBay is a sinking ship fast in my view unless they back track , they are nailing themself a big coffin

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

BPF definatly affects my buying psycology.

in galery view and items is listed at the sellers price, but when you click on it you get the price+fee ... It's just a turn off. Just as much as those listings for a widget at 99p , but actualy it's 9.99 and the 99p is a "Sample" .  People don't like it when face value is not face value.

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

My gallery view shows the price I will pay, can you post a screenshot of what yours shows?

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Seems something has filtered through since yesterday.

One item that was showing £450 yesterday in gallery is now consistent with the item page at 465.72

Another item that was £60 yesterday in gallery is now consistent with the item page at £63.11

So something has changed for me at least over night.

At one point I am sure I could see the BPF , for a brief while at least ...

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Also getting a few more threads from sellers who have been asked for their NINOs, some with the inevitable "Your payments are on hold" until we (ebay) get it.  So they won't be spending that money.

I have nothing listed for sale and don't intend to until it is made / becomes clear whether I'll be asked for mine if I get near to, or go over one of the thresholds, or if it will be required as soon as I sell an item or two?  Perhaps ebay would like to make this clear as I'm sure there are others sitting on the fence besides me.

Even if ebay does make that clear, there is SD and how that is going to work when it's made compulsory for private sellers.  If it allows buyers to choose from a list of delivery companies that ebay decides I should use and I cannot over-ride.

For me there are more reasons NOT to list on ebay ATM than there are reasons why I should.

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Yes I agree, not sure where they’ve gone but they definitely have. Well done ebay, listening to yourselves and not your customers. You’ve shagged it for buyers and sellers!

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

I asked my 25 yr old today what she thought of ebay

Shea said first port of call was Amazon for next day delivery (doesn’t exist on eBay now) but  eBay was good for getting bargains at auction

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

I have 3 ‘kids’, all in their 20s. Eldest buys on ebay (car parts mostly, likes to keep his old Yaris on the road and helps his mates out for parts then they all go to the same mechanic to fit them), middly buys on E*S* as he likes unique, one offs and hand crafted, youngest is the Amazon dude. These days, I go wherever is cheapest for things I need rather than want. I can’t afford fripperies as costs have gone up and income down.

Ebay is rarely my port of call especially from private sellers due to BPF and Evri pushed by ebay. Recently, Evri has ‘lost’ 6 of our incoming parcels. Courier has it ready for delivery but delivery never happens. You get ‘delivery delayed’ update on tracking then nothing for about a week, then Evri marks it as delivered but there is never a photo or any further details. Refunds never happen because Evri says its been delivered. On the items that have been delivered, I get a photo (usually in a bin and never in my safe place which is not a bin!). This has been happening since we were given a new driver for our area. Previous one was a lovely lady who made sure things were delivered safely.

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Was looking for some stats on how many sales where made on a mobile phone on ebay the other day. Couldn't find any stats on it but did come across some saying Amazon have nearly 60% of the ecommerce market!  and ebay was quite low on the pecking order with something along the lines of 13%, and those stats where for a year or so ago.

Mix in people worried about the job market, buyers not sure if they have to pay the BPF on top of a price shown, pvt sellers confused about their postage, sellers having very little protection from shoplifters, business sellers saying their getting little traffic and having to pay extra for promoted listings, then those stats maybe a little different now.

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Trouble is with eBay the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing anymore , they are sooooo deluded its not even funny they think the platform is going in the right direction and that's scary , i chatted to customer service yesterday and they was saying they have recorded number of sellers , but most of the sellers are not selling anymore

They forget this do eBay if it was not for PRIVATE Sellers they would not have a platform

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Yes I suppose it can be six and half a dozen and depending on people’s interests

youre not going to find car parts on vinted but will find loads of clothes and other stuff at very cheap prices

I agree that buying from  business  sellers without the bpf is cheaper plus potentially cheaper postage too then again it can depend

its not a science

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

Just a couple cmments

amazon is vastly more professional organisation than eBay with superior customer service too

as for eBay shipping private sellers don’t like being constricted  and told they have two choices only to send their stuff

only two couriers and only eBay set prices which are higher and n half the cases as they are lower in other cases

re traffic it’s gone south for a couple years now for many due to ebays manipulating visibility and I think it’s going to get worse with their tunnel vision of promoting promoted listings

At least for private sellers it’s in your face all the time

i don’t know if business sellers get the same hassle

as a private seller if you try list something you’re promoted to promote it before you can exit the selling screen now, at least for me on my iPad  with the app

I have to say no thanks before I can exit

as for people not affording to buy as much these days it’s six and half  a dozen there too, depends what is being sold how many people selling it how wanted is that item etc etc

Re: Where have the Buyers gone?

With the buyers fees, expensive postal prices and other factors

it's sadly turning into an expensive digital landfill.
