Ah so you haven’t actually read what eBay state the buyer protection fee includes then and are confusing simple delivery with BPF. Got it.

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

It's still a very grey area as far as I'm concerned.

It's not done anything to stop fraudulent sellers saying they are UK Sellers when they are not.

When I was listing and selling i wanted potential buyers to see and pay my listing price. Not see my listing price that has been altered by ebay because of BPF.

I only used RM 48hr tracked so there was a decent level of protection against loss or damage.

Because of the enforced changes to many things now only work for some and not for plenty of others.

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

Well said .

A large proportion of all private sales, if not most  are for 2nd hand items with no warranty implied , no returns excepted etc.  So how does BPF apply to that and shouldn't Ebay offer a lower BPF rate or none at all on items purchased under that understanding .  As SD forces the buyer to pay for a properly tracked an insured package there really is any extra protection the buyers needs .

That is backed up by   Ebay do have the ability to with hold seller payment if the item is not sent and charge back if the item is not as described .

All Ebay etc have changed is how they harvest selling fees by pretending its something else .  Its misleading and its dishonest so given the spirit of the law in that respect ,its only legal as someone is yet to prove it is actually illegal .

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

The BPF includes this…

What does Buyer Protection include?

With Buyer Protection, you benefit from:

  • 24/7 customer service: Get support around the clock if you need help.
  • Risk monitoring and fraud detection: We actively monitor marketplace activity to identify risk and potential fraud and take action to keep you protected.
  • Secure transactions: All payments are encrypted end-to-end and handled by our trusted payments partners.

Use of simple delivery covers the seller for loss or damage of parcels not the BPF

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

I have read that before !  nothing stated on that page is quantifiable insurance as all that existed before BPF was implemented

The only thing that could be remotely classed as new is 24/7 help desk but as Ebay have global operation then they will have help desk staff available around the clock . However if a parcel doesn't arrive etc then the need for 24/7 support is a bit excessive

I also singly fails to make it clear to any buyer what they are already covered for as a result of buying a postage label from Ebay under pre-existing protection etc

SD actually makes these statements more irrelevant as the buyer has to purchase a postage label that offers full compensation

You seemed to have missed my point about just quoting Ebay rather than give me your own arguments to support BPF .

"I only used RM 48hr tracked so there was a decent level of protection against loss or damage."

For low value items under £20, some as low as £2, I only use standard Royal Mail second class post and obtain a certificate of posting as that gives adequate Royal Mail compensation (up to £20) in case of loss or damage. No way could I justify the extra cost of Tracked 48 at £2.70 on low value items when an 87p stamp or £1.55 large letter stamp will suffice.

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

the charges are for services ebay or post companys have already provided. unless they actually state its now charging buyers a fee for using ebay its illegal.

no doubt by now they will have some twist in the constantly updating TnCs to circumvent any potential lawsuit but it will probably no doubt be replaced before that could happen

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

Exactly.

Even your choice of postage gives cover against loss or damage.

That is why BPF is a very grey area as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't want my listings fiddled with by ebay.

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

all stuff there was before.

the trusted payment partners already have safegaurds.

i use paypal still, because i was able to claim money back via them once when ebay failed to.

ebay are not providing anything new except charging fees for being a middleman

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

And eBay always received fees, just from the seller. Now it’s from the buyer. Those fees go towards things eBay has to pay for. Like staff, security, shareholder dividends.

oh, and fees owed towards payment providers, like PayPal.

it might have been there before, but it has to continue to be paid for!

I personally think eBay would be better off going back to seller fees. But a BPF is a perfectly valid business model for eBay to run with. Might fail, but it’s valid.

Re: We are Ebay closing down valid current conversations !!

You are never going to convince blinkered and biased people that they are wrong.  Even when published guidance supports you they prefer their own misguided views because it suits them.

Well done for trying though.
