I decided to make a couple of changes of one of my items, which is a very small painting and was listed with custom delivery. After making the changes, ebay now won’t allow me to save it and says I’ve to add a valid postal service. Only if I change it to SD will it allow me save. The painting is a miniature - 12 x7cm - and could go in a DL envelope. Has anybody any ideas as to why I can’t now save it with custom delivery?

Add primary service needed first? Just a guess really. I have given up trying to fathom out all these intricacies of postage now.

Where it says "add primary service" underneath simple delivery, click it and select your postage option.
You should be able to save then x

Soul destroying isn't it?!

That's the one. You have to click "add primary service", then it'll give you a list of couriers - and if the courier you want isn't listed, you can always use the "other courier 3 days" (or similar) option.
Then you can specifiy the cost you are charging - or free delivery if you want it to be included in the item price.
I believe you can also add multiple options as well. E.g. have a free service that is slower (such as Tracked 48) and then a more expensive, but faster, service (e.g. Tracked 24).
This is way way better than Simple Delivery ever will be.

Thank you all, and yes, adding a primary service has solved it.

Just getting a few listings up & running feels like quite an achievement these days... deserving of a round of applause... and a cup of tea & a chocolate biscuit... ☕ 🍪

Indeed! The last time I listed something, I had to mess about 2-3 times with various work arounds just to force "Custom Postage" through, and then, if I need to edit the listing, I have to use the same work arounds to force Custom Postage through again, because it re-defaults to Simple Delivery (and a different weight/size category to the first time!!).
It thought that, something that weighs about 4kg, and was itself too big to be a Small parcel (even without outer packaging) was actually a 1kg Small Parcel... doh!!
