I had a buyer contact me about three items which I had on three separate auctions asking if I would do a buy now price for them . We agreed a price and they asked how much postage would be for them all together . Each one sending separately would have been £3.44 each . Lucky for them they where still under 2kg packed together . After relisting them I could not believe had they been over 2kg it would have been over £10 to send which means posting together would have been more than sending three separate parcels . How can this be right , I noticed there was a large parcel price for up to 1kg . It is bad enough to not be able to claim for any packing materials but do ebay not realise sellers will also be loosing sales because off this . Yes postage prices seem to be closer to what we would have paid at the local post office but how can this be right . Does anybody know what happens if you do get the weight correct when listing .

It’s not right and never will be if enforced
But if package was over 2kg but ebays new system “recommended” 2kg when relisting them you’d still be ok to send as up to 2kg and eBay would foot the bill for the e xtra
in general re the no 2-10 kgs option I asked in last weeks community chat and there was no yes or no answer about whether it will be put in…despite it appearing in the help pages as a weight option
is the missing 2-10 kg weight option going to be added soon as without it if your parcel is over 2kg you are quoted the up to 15kg price
which is c £4 dearer at least for Royal Mail - they have 2-10 (and then 10-20
so sending a 3kg parcel is the up to 20kg RM price
I’ll stop there before it gets more confusing lol
many thanks in advance
ps or is it if we use a size/weight label ebay have “recommended” eBay will pick up the tab for the rest? Can see people posting heavy books for 3.45 because eBay recommended the size 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Edwardian-dreams thanks for your question.
We have no confirmation of this as of now, but this is something that could potentially change. If it does, you will see it reflected in your listing flow.
Thank you,

That is ok saying just to post them and let ebay pick up the extra postage. What happens if the local small post offices refuse the parcel you can no longer just put a few extra stamps on the parcel as that is no longer allowed . Then what happens when you attempt to get the correct label . Sorry who came up with this stupid delivery should chucked it in the bin before rolling it out . When I asked customer services they all say the say it is simpler but my guess they have all been given a answer script . Maybe they should try using

Customer service can’t help , community chat team can’t help here either
I would just do it custom one way or another and get it shipped
the Ai bots can’t follow you around minute by minute lol
i agree they should have not rolled it out before it was a competent working system
gross negligence and incompetence imo
from the top not the minions who have to try and make it work
We shouldn’t be dealing with all this ***
it can’t be rocket science either to get it right

Its no longer an option on the Royal Mail website so I guess that's why?

Sorry that information is not correct , the royal mail website where I buy my own labels from still has a 2-5 kg and 5-10kg meduim parcels so that is not the reason why Ebay do not offer it . It is just a way off taking more money from the buyer . Ebay would like you to set a extra postage option but if every item is a different weight .

A 10kg parcel on the royal website is around £6.55 so come ebay are charging over £10 for the same parcel when they day there parcel prices are around 20% cheaper . Sorry that is just rubbish , you see on the TV selling if free for private sellers but what it does tell you are having to pay over the top postage prices and in the end you do not even get as much for the item you are selling because ebay are now adding a fee to the buyer when times are already difficult enough .

Royal Mail no longer has separate weight bands for 2-5Kg and 5-10Kg, only 2-10Kg. They may still appear in some places on the website but the prices are the same for each.
Similarly, Evri does have separate weight bands for 2-5Kg and 5-10Kg but again the prices are the same.

eBay have updated their prices see here, a 10kg parcel is now £6.55 cheaper if you have both couriers selected or use only Evri.
For items sold between £0-100
Item weight & size | Both couriers selected | EVRi only | Royal Mail only |
750g large letter | £2.70 | £2.94 | £2.73 |
0-1kg parcel | £2.94 | £2.97 | £3.44 |
1-2kg parcel | £3.44 | £4.06 | £3.44 |
2-10kg parcel | £5.36 | £5.64 | £6.65 |
10-15kg parcel | £7.19 | £7.26 | £10.55 |
15-20kg parcel | £10.55 | £10.66 |

I am sorry to say when I tried to setup a listing with a parcel just over 5kg it was just over £10 . Ebay may advertise one price but in reality they try and charge something completely different . Evri is a round trip off around 15 miles for me which means that is not a option , my local shop is a drop off for 4 different couriers Evri not one off them which means I am not able to use that service and my guess is I am not the only one . It is bad enough as a seller not being able to pass on any off the packing materials which are not cheap these days like everything else.

I've removed my listings due to SD so can only answer posts seeing and repeating other peeps experiences, and keeping an eye on announcements from eBay, which do seem to be changing in a regular manner! 🤔
I understand the prices for parcels has very recently changed to the table shown above, showing an item of 5kg now and Only selecting Evri , does cost £5.64. Maybe you sent your item before these changes were made?
As said , many aspects changing regularly hard to keep up, and many still able to select Custom Postage, the date now for all Private sellers to use SD seems to be the 28th April !

2-5kg bracket is not available with Royal Mail, either tracked or untacked.

E.g. Magazines, CDs and DVDs
Royal Mail website today £6.55 - not the rip off prices ebay are charging. It has always been a pet hate of mine, sellers over charging for postage, now I am doing this via "Simple Delivery". This needs urgent attention.

It is really strange when you go to the royal mail click and drop royal website you are able to book a parcel for the 2-5kg weight . Yes I do agree the price is the same as a 5-10kg parcel but it still does not explain why when I tried to list via Ebay the price was over £10 when they told everybody it would be 20% less which it is clearly not . Maybe before adding VAT but after . Having visiting the local post office today I have been told Royal Mail has instructed them to take any incorrect parcels and it would be sorted at the end off each month or they will take the parcels away from Royal Mail . That is fine for them to say that but when you have a 15 round trip to the local Evri parcelshop it just does not work and I guess there will be many more in my position .
22-04-2025 10:36 AM
The strange thing is several years ago Ebay started taking to take a fee from sellers postage to try and stop sellers charging to much for postage . Now they are doing that is ok , I would have added 50p to ever parcel for packing materials we are not even to do that now , most buyers excepted that you would get the odd who moaned because you added it . I agree what the last person said this needs looking into , sellers have never been explained how we can combine postage brought by the same buyer . Infact I read on another post it is not possible at the moment because is not working . Why roll out something which is clearly not fit for the purpose , this should have been binned from the very start .
22-04-2025 10:39 AM
Does anybody know if buyers still mark the postage price out of 5* when they leave feedback . If they do how can that be fair when we have no control over the postage price !!!!

I think you might be getting a false impression by looking at "Branch from £ 6.55" as £6.55 is merely the cheapest band of 0-2kg. From the table above this weight would be £3.44 for Simple Delivery
Post Office Simple Delivery
0 - 2kg £6.55 £3.44
2 - 10kg £8.19 £6.65
10 - 20kg £12.19 £10.55/£10.66
