Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I’m a member for 14 years - I have today complained fiercely to EBay with regards to 4% + 75p charge on each item purchased as we all know this is a Back Door way of recovering the Seller Fees which were scrapped recently - Buyers already have adequate protection - as to payment 2 days after delivery - we’re at the mercy of Royal Mail to scan all  items when collected (not guaranteed) 😡

Fellow  members I urge you to let your disproval known - SHAME ON YOU Ebay😡😡

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Don’t forget also that eBay will hold that money in an account for those 2 days, earning interest on it. Imagine the cost they are gaining from this. Millions with all sellers taken into account! Same way they got rid of monthly payouts etc, you can leave it in there but if you do, it’s in their account, again earning interest for ebay! I thought at first no selling fees great, but now we work out why! I’ve dripped like a broken tap about this. I hope everyone else does the same. Thoroughly hacked off with this.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I am absolutely FURIOUS. I will delete my 15 year account and switch to Vinted and many others . Just off the phone and I absolutely gassed the poor guy on the other end . So obtaining a proof of postage receipt from the post office is longer valid unless you use eBay’s postage system !

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Having just read my email on this, nightmare for private sellers as buyers won't buy with the extra costs on low priced items. Ebay trying to get back all the fees they have lost when they decided to not charge fees on private sellers, someone boobed on the figures and now we all lose out. .75p plus 4% extra cost to the buyer that ebay rake in as in reading all the information on this buyer protection the only one who gains is ebay.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

The lady I spoke to had to put me on hold to read the email I was on about as she’d not yet seen it and she didn’t have the info I needed either so escalated it to manager level - waiting on a callback now……. Absolutely ridiculous. You’d think eBay would have given detailed briefings to all staff so they can at least respond to callers. 21 years here, and I’m beyond frustrated. Selling non tracked items now is almost impossible, especially if they are under £10. I don’t know how you get paid for your item if not sent tracked as you’re waiting on the buyer to say they have received it or leave feedback?

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I send things second class, no signature, to keep postage costs down for cheap stuff. There is no tracking on these, so how will Ebay know it's been delivered? People don't even seem to leave feedback anymore, let alone report that they have received an item. ?

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Hello  Judging by the many comments below we all feel the same it is a reintroduction of fees by another name (back door fees) - they must think we are stupid - it is identical to Vinted . I am off after 23 years. So cross with eBay.

EBay are copying the vinted system

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

That is exactly what I’m feeling and thinking. Sending something tracked for me negates the sale as postage out weighs sale costs. Let alone added fees now for buyer protection. I guess you just have to hope that the buyer leaves you feedback or they tick a box to say it’s been received - open to absolute abuse that though!
I’ve been on about feedback for years too and that less and less people leave it. It should be like Vinted where it’s auto applied after a week and no issues or something so it’s recognised.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Hope buyer is honest and marks received (as vinted system) or hope RM scan as delivered and / or have a pic

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Thing about Vinted is that all postage is tracked so there is no cheap postal option. It makes it quite expensive to buy unless you are buying several items from the same seller.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

That’s a lot of hoping wishing and praying on the buyer and postie so the seller can receive payment after nearly a week! I’m honestly not sure how it’ll work. As said I sell a fair few cheap bits, non tracked as it’s not worth it otherwise.

To me it’s like going to the super market, picking what you want to eat, walking past and waving at the cashier, then when you’ve cooked and eaten it, a few days later say you’re happy with it and pay the supermarket. It’s bonkers.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Yeah it sucks

just read this bit

  • For untracked deliveries, or tracked deliveries with no delivery confirmation, the seller will receive payment 14 days from the order date.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Wow! Just wow!

It’s almost like eBay wants rid of any private sellers and just have business sellers only?!

14 days to wait is ridiculous unless they force (I can’t see how) the buyer to tick a big blue box to say “item received” unlocking your funds in 2 days. Like you said earlier, there’s a lot of hoping on the buyers and posties here!!

I wonder if a business seller and you send something untracked where you’d stand then? Will try and have a dig about.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Maybe give Etsy a try

they have fees like we know them from the past  but you can price your stuff a bit higher over there

and I think you get paid quite quick after sale

I wonder if they will treat the buyer leaving positive feedback on an item as enough confirmation of delivery to release funds?

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Sure it's a disgrace - but haven't we all been waiting for them to screw us again after "removing" selling fees. This has been slightly longer in coming than I expected - I thought it might kick off with the New Year.

From my point of view this criminal act of greed is a huge slap in the face to all sellers - I can't and won't afford to sell any more so will be winding down and closing my selling account, along with, I suspect, thousands of others.

Ebay, you still suck - thanks a bunch!

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I totally agree with the points raised by lady4838 and other ebay users  on this forum who have also raised concerns regarding the new fees, once these are introduced I intend to stop selling on ebay.  I am unhappy having to wait 2 days after an order has been recorded as ' delivered' before I get payment.

Within the last 2 months I have posted a high value item via royal mail tracked 48.

Delivery was late and I contacted Royal Mail to try and find out where the order was as tracking had not been updated since day 1 when I posted it.  Royal Mail told me they had no idea where my parcel was. I did not know the order had arrived safely until the buyer left me positive feedback, it was not scanned when it was delivered and is still recorded as not been 'delivered'.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I would like to think that they would do and as you say, upon receipt of positive feedback, funds are released. However, the amount of feedback I have personally missed out on over 21 years is in unbelievable. People are quick to get their item and forget. This is why I think and I have said to eBay previously, that you need to leave automated feedback should 7 days go past point of sale/delivery or something and no request issues have been raised.

Re: Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

And in the case of your example you give there, because it wasn’t scanned in but they had recieved it, you’d have to wait 14 days to receive funds!! Go figure! Same with me now for selling untracked items less than £10 or so in value. Anything untracked, I will have to wait 14 days to receive my money! Madness.
