I've bought a few things here over the years with no problems. I now want to sell some stuff. But when I try to add a bank account I get this message:
"We're sorry, but we ran into a problem. Please try again.
I tried again, several times, and got the same message.
Is ebay trying to dissuade new sellers?
I only knew I had to add a bank account after reading community messages saying that ebay does not pay sellers through a debit card but only into a bank account.
Why does ebay not make this clear to would be sellers?
I only found the page for adding a bank account from ebay's community.
It was buried at the bottom of ebay's sitemap page under the heading 'My ebay - My selling account - choose automatic payment method':
pages.ebay.com/sitemap
At present if I sell an item, the buyer would pay ebay, I will be charged ebay's fees from my card, which is easy to add, but I won't receive the buyer's payment because ebay has prevented me from adding a bank account.
It all seems very odd.

Are you able to complete (submit) the listing? I'm not sure but you might need to actually attempt to complete the listing to trigger the "selling account" setup process.

You've posted a link to the US eBay site map, which makes me think that you may be logged into their site and not the UK one, so log out and then into ebay.co.uk
Then use the link on this eBay guidance page to get to your payments section:

Thanks for replying.
I'm now logged in to the UK site.
Thanks for the link to the page for updating bank accounts.
I clicked on the link they give - 'Payments in My eBay' and got this:
When I click on it I get this:
If I choose 'checkout' I can add a card. If I choose 'auctions' I can add a card or Paypal.
There is no option unfortunately to add a bank account.

I've got a draft lsiting ready to go.
When I was preparing it there wasn't an option to add a bank account.
The only question about payment methods was this:
Odd that adding a card to ebay is easy but adding a bank account is so difficult.

Thanks.
I've listed something.
I was taken through the process of confirming various seller details.
But not given an option to add a bank account.
I went to 'My eBay - payments' and found the page now includes all the options for adding payment information.
You were right, I had to list first, next confirm personal details and only then could I add a bank account.
Many thanks for taking the time to help me.

Ebay's methods and selling regeime are *bleep*, rules and regulations deter woodbe sellers, after 23 years selling on ebay they just get worse, that's why they are having to do TV advertising with Vinted and Etsy offering a much more user friendly platform. Ebay is a control freque.

No idea what a 'freque' might be, but did you have to bump an old thread from last Summer in order to add a post that's completely irrelevant to the content?
There are currently loads of discussion threads about the forthcoming changes, surely you could've joined in the discussion there.

I had this issue with Revolut. I had to use the micro deposit method as ebay will not accept them the normal way it seems.
