This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/paying-items/buyer-protection?id=5594

75p plus 4% buyers fee, so something which was priced at £5 will be £5.95 in February.

Uhhh, I'm quacking in my boots.

I'm not a "business seller under the radar". What a presumptuous post by an alleged "guide"

You are one of the most obvious business sellers I have seen trading on a private account.

You claim to grow the plants from which provide your seeds. That alone makes you a business seller, before we even consider the vast array of fishing lures etc, you have for sale in your "Fishing Tackle Emporium".

In what universe are you not a business seller?

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

Yes I will be doing the same, I have sent complaints to ebay personally as that is the first legal step you should take as most authorities will ask that you have attempted to complain to the company direct. i'm sure this can't be legal them holding money on an item they don't own for that amount of time especially international deliveries! what are they doing with your money in the menatime many of us are asking as they could be putting it into high interest daily account earning interest on your money. as this is a public forum you have to be careful how you put things though, you can't jstu come out and say they are doing this without proof, but many of us think we know it's nothing to do with ebay buyer protection. i mean ebay always say they take an equal stance on buyer/seller protection but they never did, buyers got away with so much, i've seen so many horror stories from sellers about what ebay lets buyers get away with even used items classed as broken was a recent complaint I saw on ebayuk's facebook page. they stated camera was broken/used only sold for parts, yet the buyer stated they opened the camera and parts not working. yet ebays definition of used item is, used item parts possibly not working). it's criminal and that is one example out of hundreds i see despite sellers strong 100% evidence, i've experienced it myself. so ebay stating buyers now have have to pay a hidden fee for so called buyer protection is rubbish and many of us on their facebook age have commented so. you have to remember that what ever govenremnts or company's tell you upfront is the reaoson they are doing it, is never the reasons they are doing it, if you have a bad feeling about something then search deeper for the truth of what might really be going on. I had a feeling this free listing was to good to be true and now we know why. i've ended all my listings after 3rd feb ialso sell on gumtree, freeadsuk, facebook market place and buy sell groups, my website and personal fcbk page by paypal payment r cash on pick up options.

yes many complaints on here and their ukebay facebook and various internet forums as well. please read/sign and share my petition against this and also make your complaints direct to ebay as well as that is the most important thing, as legally they can't take forum comments as an official complaint.  https://www.change.org/p/ebay-gone-to-far-with-new-policy-change-from-4th-feb-2025

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

Your petition is full of misunderstandings of how the new system works;  therefore anyone that signs it is not objecting to the new system but your interpretation of it, and it is a pointless exercise.

Interesting that a 'private seller' as you were/are, has their own website.

Who are you going to take your petition to?

Your petition is full of misunderstandings of how the new system works

Wasnt that typical of ebays approach to the system - the launch was far less than smooth, and with more than a hint of untruths.

Perhaps you could clarify the Posters mis-givings for them?

Are Private Sellers not allowed a web site?

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

The poster has based the petition on never getting paid without tracking.  The 14 day wait for untracked items was always part of Ebay's initial announcements,  so should not have been ommitted.

People are voting on the basis that they think they will never get paid.

How many people selling off old unwanted personal possessions do you know that have their own website?  It's a pretty good sign that that's not what they do.

you have to be kidding whilst you are 'quacking'!  There was nothing 'presumptuous' about the post, it was a pretty damn accurate comment - that of course is in my opinion, which i am allowed.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

that was the point i raised,  i have signed quite a few petitions in the past but i like to check first that they are actually based on what is happening and this petition is so wrong on that one very main point.  I think most people agree that the new changes are a lot of hogwash and an excuse for more of a money grab but quite honestly what company does not do that.  We have a choice, stay with it and suck it up or leave.  Personally with the current changes i am of the suck it up type but when SD comes in i will be leaving.  No half baked petition is going to change what e bay are doing, that will only happen when people leave or their profits start going down because of lack of sales.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

Nowadays there are a lot of lies connected to the platform, im sorry if i never picked up on her saying 'never get paid' .

I stumbled on the title of the 'Buyer Protection Fee' - where it was muted the funds raised was to finance an army of CS ( located in the UK according to a Community Manager) , since then it was muted as being for an AI system to fullfill the function - then actual sellers who have , for some reason, actually contacted CS only to have 1 hour plus waits.

A skeptic , could sumise that the task force is either ill trained ( very possible) or simply does not exist.

I couldnt find the website probably due to my lack of PC savy - i didnt think i was allowed to direct folks to other online ports?

Im not trying to be negative on your contribution, ebays launch of these new changes has been very lacking , even the US boards dont seem to understand, as UK CS is not an easy one to locate.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

yes i agree mostly - but i was assuming a petition was reaching further afield than ebays own board and restricted community.

I wouldn't know where someone as yourself would find a off site ' home' to air views, but the various collectibles have their own groups where general topics can be discussed to a wider audience.

I looked at it but as soon as I started reading it I realised it was emotional rather than logical so I skipped through it and didn't sign.

A well thought out petition using facts as basis is one thing, that is something else.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

the delivery reference number thingy (which was used for small parcels for a long time when buying at post office) doesn't always get completed. I did work out how efficient it was and it was maybe only 75 - 80%. I think some people have mentioned this in the forum,  it relies on the postie scanning it.

I noticed the misunderstandings etc so haven't signed it.
Think I object more to the 75p than the wait for money.

Hello Pink rabbit,

Please don't be offended but,  paragraphs are your friend 😊

A big, undifferentiated block of text is very hard to read ..... (I want to read it but it makes me eyes ache!)

...Because getting your sales money out of eBay is NOW like getting blood out of a stone !

Things never used to be this bad when eBay treated private sellers and business sellers EQUALLY.

Now it seems that eBay are DISCRIMINATING between Private & Business Sellers and it's not nice.  😞

Since you can't actually get blood out of a stone, but you do get paid by ebay,  you are also guilty of  misleading people.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

"...but you do get paid by ebay..."

...you failed to mention 'at some point and not always as advertised or promised by ebays own advertised payout rules or guidance' which my recent experience (and going by other users comments) on several other threads also demonstrate.

Just to note - my pending funds have now cleared (delivered and logged on ebay as delivered 15th and 16th Feb respectively), so after the expected 2-day post delivery wait for funds to appear, it actually took 4 and 3 days longer than ebay advertised. I've already withdrawn the funds immediately and deleted my watchlist of the items I'd been planning to buy. I'm sticking to my principles and no longer buying on ebay, I feel its the only way to try and impact ebays recent decision making to influence them to reconsider  and re-evaluate. If they don't that's up to them, but I wish all sellers and buyers good luck moving forward, as I for one will no longer buy on here as it is no longer a platform I have any trust in.

I hope others who were waiting for their funds have had similar success now too.

I didn't think I needed to go into that much detail to prove my point, which was that the analogy was wrong, but you are right, there are some timing issues.
