So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

The whole thing is now one big confusing mess...how do you make something which was so simple so complicated?

I've now put all my sales (and purchases) on hold for 3 weeks just to see how this plays out.

By then we'll see how many sellers have had to wait the full 14 days to get "confirmation" that their item has been delivered & whether they've been paid OR whether they're having problems with payouts etc.

Yes I agree and I have also made some great 'online friends' both here in the UK and Internationally whilst selling on ebay and that's because it's not just all about the money with most genuine private sellers. Many are also collectors of items that they sell and so have a genuine affinity with their buyers. You often receive a more personal touch from genuine private sellers, along with the offerings of more unique items.  I know for me personally it's that kind if service that keeps my buyers/ebay friends coming back year after year and that is the community that ebay should be rewarding and encouraging.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

You did, wow... I haven't had any of those messages for quite a number of years. It really doesn't matter anymore, eBay have moved their " ethos"  in my opinion it is far more " corporate"... it is not a "community of  buyers and sellers" anymore, it seems more " dog eat dog" scenario  and I am just not equipped  ( for want of a better word) to enter that " world"...

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Agreed - it saddens me that it has changed so much and you are right,  ebay should be encouraging that kind of service, which is actually a " kind service" and it can come back ten fold, money does not play into that whatsoever... that is the true " community spirit"... The " community "  board is because everyone requires assistance in some way or another , either  something is " broken" or they don't understand something or they are " fed up" with something else, or they can't get hold of CS  etc, etc They also show eBay announcements, but how many actually come on here to read them?  We are witnessing this right now more than ever... and yet it is hardly bringing about a " community spirit" with the " baiting" and " pointedly rude posts" by some... there are   100's of posts/comments/answers genuinely and freely made by those who care to spend some of their time who are just the same  " members"  customers of eBay really, to try to assist where they can without reward and are really doing eBays " job" for them.

It used to be so much simpler , fun, enjoyable and stress free.... ahhh  I miss the " old days"  ... *sigh*

I totally agree. I hope the other sites get more traffic though otherwise no point. I think ebay will go the same way as QXL auctions.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Yes I do too and can only see things going from bad to worse. Just too many big changes in such a short space of time and I am sure there are a lot of people like myself who don't like change (especially when it doesn't seem to be for the better for them). I am holding my new listings at the moment and shall see if there is any point in continuing with ebay once this 'simple postage' nonsense is made compulsory. Supporting my small local Post Office (not many left in my area now) by buying my postage from them and anything thing else I may need at the same time is very important to me.

I am holding too... like you, it is important for me to  support my little local post office and only actually use RM, the post office staff are wonderful and have assisted me in many ways too and so for me SD is a no go.

Look after yourself and do what is right for you.

Well if my field of interest (Warhammer models) is remotely indicative of general site performance I don't think it will be too long before some very big business users start complaining. All of my most recent bookmarked auctions have ended down on their normal selling prices. Most in the 15-25% margin but a £140 brand new box set just sold for £58 on auction. That just doesn't happen unless they set the auctions to finish between 1-6am which is their fault anyway.

If you aren't checking your markets already I'd suggest you start, just in case.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I have just closed my account but need to wait 14 more days to collect my balance,  I will probably use that time on these forums to vent my frustrations at the fortnight payment delay and the forthcoming "Simple Postage' !!!    as I still live in a real world and walk to the local shop/ P.O. and talk to others and interact I realise I can do this without EBay formatting me and keeping my money safe for weeks.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I personally haven't had a sale for over a month - and now came to a dead stop - lucky to get a watcher or two but never bids -

Ebay seems dead - I only sell my once read Comics ( 2000AD ) and the odd magazine ( niche subject ) - to what Ebay used to be , is shocking - I also think there is less ' spare ' money - and buyers have went to other platforms like Vinted - or online Auctions .

Ebay just haven't wanted to realise the competion has caught up and out performed them.

Plus the Categories are just awful and confusing / search system has been dreadful for a while

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

My main arena (Warhammer models) has taken a nose dive since last Sunday. Price wise it's an incredibly stable sector, at least it was. Multiple auctions that I've been watching have sold for far lower amounts than they normally do. If it happens tomorrow when the mega dealers auctions finish then it will stir up a hornets nest. One of them only does auctions and they have so many followers their stuff usually sells above market price. If they get hit the same way that other sellers have been this week they are going to lose a huge amount of money. My gut says this is going to end in badly.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I used to list Sunday to Sunday.

My last listings ended on 2nd Feb and I didn't relist any items that hadn't sold.

I too will see how things go.

I always use Royal Mail signed for and go in person to the Post Office to send my sold items.

I don't want to change that.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Talking about icebergs, must admit I am wondering just how many users eBay locked out of the app with their recent "update".

Going by some of the phones being listed as locked out I wouldn't be remotely surprised if it's in the 6 figure territory, possibly even more.

Snap i was also in the wait and see camp in relation to all the changes.

I am however tempted to list one item to see what happens over the next few days with that listing 🙂

I think that's probably the best way to go for those unsure if the changes are going to work for them.

One or two items to list for sale perhaps one as a BIN one in auction format?  See how it pans out 🤔

However,  I don't believe the holds on BP have been fully rolled out for everyone.  Some are reporting a hold for 14 days,  others have been able to withdraw money asap.  Meanwhile we're told it's only electronic items affected not all categories.

Looks like the end of Feb might see completion and of course  then, we have the possibility of compulsory Simple Delivery for Private Sellers, and all the joy that will bring,  offering 2 choices of postal services RM and Evri to be selected by the buyer and to be purchased only though eBay !  Some places in the UK do not have an Evri  postal service, so we'll wait and see how that's handled !

Never a dull moment here !  🤗

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I recon if eBay gave us all a System Restore option (like Windows 11 does) that allows us users to undo all the harmful changes eBay have now made and restore eBay to an earlier time...

EVERYONE WOULD BE USING IT !

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Yep. As this is kind of a laugh or cry moment I've decided to laugh but there are some really bad signs out there.

Talking about post, during COVID lockdown I was getting stuff shipped to local newsagents via click and collect. eBay give the choices.

I ordered a shopping trolley for my mother, selected the collection point. Next thing I know I received an update email from the courier saying they are returning to sender, so I investigate. Turned out the newsagent I selected didn't accept deliveries from the courier used.

No way the seller or buyer could have known that, but surely eBay should have. So if they can't even get that right I do wonder how bad Simple Delivery is going to go.
