Simple delivery - when will ebay back down and reverse this stupidity?

Anyone willing to take a guess?

I'm going to say that they won't back down, unfortunately. They'll just refine it - eg, offering postage weights between 2kg and 15kg, printerless package pickups, etc.

They wont, they are making profit from it as they get the labels at a discounted rate from RM/Evri. They charge you/buyer the full rate whilst paying pennies to the courier.

Yes, they definitely won't remove it now that they have agreed large contracts with Royal Mail and Evri, just continue to refine it or tinker with it.

They have confirmed in today's update that they are working on a printerless collection option.

The missing weight band is clearly a glitch so should get resolved soon.

Unfortunately I expect they have already made a pretty huge spend commitment to Evri in order to secure the lowest prices to maximise their profit margins maybe 75% of all ebay postage for a few years or something similar.

It's probably so hard encoded into their business plans now they will feel the need to plod on regardless of the distress it causes.

Realistically I can only see it stopping now if an authority such as the CMA steps in and tells them the mandatory bundling of their overpriced postage is harmful and against competition law why is why I urge everyone to file a report to encourage the CMA to investigate.

Re: Simple delivery - when will ebay back down and reverse this stupidity?

Yes, unfortunately, I think they will just carry on tweaking & fiddling around with it, no doubt causing even more confusion & exasperation...!

It's a pity they couldn't be satisfied with running both options. Surely they would do more than well enough from those who are already using, or are willing to start using Simple Delivery? New/younger sellers would probably accept it without question, and over time, many more would drift onto it, rather than keep having to 'switch back to custom postage'.

Forcing it on everyone, removing free choice, and disregarding all the different circumstances that make this Simple Delivery system very difficult/impossible for some, seems a very ill-considered move...

Re: Simple delivery - when will ebay back down and reverse this stupidity?

I don't think they're greed would allow both sd and custom/advanced options and it is because of their greed they needed to create a convoluted, confusing mess.

It doesn't make sense to make the decisions they have done - BPF, delayed pay outs, simple delivery - unless greed is the motivation.

I tried to roll with it with BPF (so ebay could just pocket the fee) and delayed pay outs (so they could earn interest/invest) but taking control of postage with simple delivery is going to be hard to accept, especially when the reason it exists is so that ebay can make money on every postage label that they force the buyer/seller to purchase from them.

Re: Simple delivery - when will ebay back down and reverse this stupidity?

would agree but i also think it depends on exactly how much they will lose refunding on missing/damaged items.  Going on how many people seem to have had over the years i think they will find it quite an expensive proposition, of course they will try to get out of refunding whereever they can!

Its only going to change if the share price plummets and the shareholders get really stroppy about it.

They won't make any profit if no-one is selling (or buying)!

Re: Simple delivery - when will ebay back down and reverse this stupidity?

I'm almost certain they won't turn back based off userbase pressure.

But if they've stepped over any laws and sovereign regulating legal authorities tell them to stop, they won't have much of a choice.

Why I've been saying Trading Standards regarding BPF from the start.

The recent CMA Simple Delivery angle is another worth exploring too.

The fact is we simply don't have the power to make them stop. So this has to come from someone that does.

Re: Simple delivery - when will ebay back down and reverse this stupidity?

I have already reported this to the CMA. Any individual can make a complaint and I suggest that is what everyone does. This is a precis of their response to me.

"Thank you for your recent correspondence about ebay UK.

We value people contacting us with information. This helps us to tackle anti-competitive behaviour and protect people and businesses from being disadvantaged by unfair practices.   ... Our Intelligence Team will now analyse your enquiry using our published prioritisation principles.  We prioritise the cases that are most likely to make a real difference for people and the UK economy based on our available resources and the likelihood of a successful outcome."  To me it is definitely unfair practice to impose this for all items. Also their policy does not include any allowance for the seller to charge for packaging.
