Has you may know, these days when you send an item Royal mail and send it to the buyers address, the buyer can request during the delivery process via the Royal mail website, that the package is not to be delivered to their address, but to be left at say a local post office / sorting office for collection.
An item sent has been sat at the collection point for nearly two weeks, I have messaged the buyer etc to suggest they go and collect the package or it maybe returned to the sender.
So but my question is....in this type of "simple delivery" situation , I guess the item will be return....and of course the buyer will expect a full refund....but will the seller be refunded their postage costs etc? as it is not the sellers fault the buyer did not collect.
Or does eBay consider the item the same as if it has gone missing and refund the buyer and the seller.

It sounds like you did everything you could reasonably do, and are expected to do by eBay. There is nothing further you could do or could have done, you are not at fault. This should be resolved with absolutely no loss to yourself. Unfortunately you will still probably have to refund their payment. I would block them as a buyer.

I could be wrong but I think the buyer requesting the change of address invalidates any claim they should be able to make to ebay. Even if I am correct, whether that's how ebay have implemented it for SD, who knows.
Don't agree to any refunds e.g. in response to messages. If the buyer can raise an item not received case, it should explain what your options are - and you can see if they are fair/agree with what ebay have said previously. You can ask again on this/a new thread. I would have thought at worst, you get the item back, refund the item cost and you keep the original postage and don't pay for return.
Let us know what happens. My guess is you'll keep all the money.

Generally implies it's the buyer's responsibility.
