Simple delivery is awful

I list a few things on ebay occasionally, but this new simple delivery is just rubbish for sellers. It assumes that ebay actually know the size and weight of items And that everyone can easily get to Evri or other courier services easily. Why did they have to stop the seller from deciding how to post items? Put me right off bothering to use Ebay.

I agree - it is terrible. I will probably stop using eBay - its too complicated to use (I work in tech and ecommerce....) and too restrictive. As a seller, I need to be able to choose the postage that works for me, for that specific item and that specific transaction.

Really bad move by eBay

A recent sale brought me here, had not heard of  this before. I purchased the label for home collection from RM, as I would usually then realised it looks like i've been additionally charged for confusing delivery.

I dont understand it & don't want to use it. (aka Im old & strongly dislike change).

Spent ages on a chat with an agent who assured me the  label would auto cancel if not used & I would get a refund.

What a hassle & worry.

I'm not holding my breath..

Did you pay for the *unused* postage label or did the buyer?

If the buyer bought the label and you don't use it (i.e. post another way) then , yes, the buyer will get an automatic refund of the unused label.

If you, as the seller, bought the postage label, the refund will not be automatic.  You will have to 'request' the refund 🙁

(there doesn't appear to be a technical reason for this; it's just another hurdle placed in the way to try and persuade sellers to use the Simple Del system)

If you have a RM label you can arrange a collection. Yes it costs 30p and a total pain to arrange as it adds an extra step but I always use collection and from my safe place (Im at home, I just can’t get to the door easily and my regular postman knows this and will also ring my bell when leaving any incoming parcels so I know to check my safe place)

Oh do we now have to log onto the Royal Mail website or something then? I'm at a loss, previously it could be done from the from the eBay despatch screen. Now I get offered one button " press for QR code" and eBay automatically debits me what It thinks I have in terms of parcel size(not helpful in itself) and no option for anything it just sends me a QR code

If you can print a label, you can then book a collection on the RM site (at the moment you can only book a collection, not have a label brought to you). I have never used a QR code in my life as I don’t use apps or my phone for anything other than, well, a phone 😂 I drop my phone too much or end up squinting to read anything (despite wearing glasses) but mostly I struggle to use phones these days.

I guess the buyer did? I dont know. I paid for rm postage to send plus been charged for a label i don't need. I expect the refund to come to me to help pay for the postage i purchased independently of ebay.

I'll see in a week if the refund comes through, else will have to contact an agent again.

I think the buyer probably did then; If *you* paid, I think you'd remember setting the sale up as 'seller pays postage' (I think buyer pays is the 'default' ?)

This means the unused label cost will be refunded to the buyer, automatically, in about 30 days.

So this means you won't have been *charged* for the unused label, but you won't get a refund of the label you bought independently. ☹️ (there is no mechanism for that kind of refund..)

So you will be down by *one* set of postage costs, but not two....

Yes

Except if you post got Royal Mail postage on the Royal Mail website they will collect for free.

I don’t see why I should have to pay for it just because eBay decided to force ‘Simple Delivery’ on its customers. (Presumably because the not get a kick back from RM and Evri for them being their only partners)

Royal Mail collection used to be free but that was only ever intended as a temporary promotion.  Royal Mail has now introduced a charge of 30p per item for collection, effective from 1st May.  It is nothing to do with eBay.

I was just coming here to say that 🙂 as a business, I don’t use GSP and buy postage from RM (ebay rarely offers what Im after and their form is too messy, I know what Im looking at and the commodity code on the RM site), I add collection at checkout and its cost is 30p which I find perfectly acceptable as it saves me time, energy and working costs (I don’t work for free).

There doesn't seem to be any way of uploading tracking information any more or even saying that an item has been despatched. You click the get me post button which takes an unknown amount from your account. I'm sure that can't be legal and that there should be a statement of amount to form a contract before just deducting from your account

Ebay SD is terrible

Once a label is generated, you can't cancel it, so if you find out you have bought the wrong label...tough

When you drop a parcel at the post office, there is no option to purchase any additional postage

This is the worst change ebay have made and I'm stopping selling on here now.

Impossible to contact anyone real at ebay customer service

Firstly, make sure you choose the right size/weight option when listing (or if it's in your favour, use the eBay 'recommended' size).
As long as you have done this, you should have no need to pay any additional postage.

I have on a couple of occasions used the 'recommended' size/weight given by eBay, even though the item was borderline. after packaging the item went up to the next size band, but as eBay had 'recommended' the size, I just used the label provided. Everything was fine, no surcharge for myself or the buyer.
