@kaholl6818

So 7th April is when they start messing with everyone.

Really glad I stopped my test listing now. Can't be bothered trying to work through this nonsense.

I can't make it work on the app (iphone) in the way I can on desktop, I select  "switch to advanced options and end up able to do my own postage. In the app I can then select which I would like to offer (I can't do Evri collection too far to drop off) though can't remember how....BUT it has tracked 48 at £5.15 which is for medium parcel (somewhere ebay said you'd save money with simple delivery...) and the correct price for Tracked 24, therefore lower than tracked 48....

So sticking with desktop

Somewhere I have the conversation saved where I was told there would still be opt out

I won't be selling if I can't opt for Royal Mail, too far for Evri drop off - 8 miles.

At the moment the app is giving the wrong postage for 2kg tracked 48 within what seems to be simple delivery but where you can choose your option i.e I have a choice of carrier, evri, yodel, royal mail but the prcie is fixed.

@incredible_how

You can opt out of Evri, but it's a very sneaky trap.

As soon as you do that your buyers have to pay the most expensive of the 3 tariff rates.

eBay also left themselves a backdoor where they can override any selection you make.

So you deselect Evri, buyer pays the highest tariff, eBay still gets to use Evri anyway.

& eBay will blame you when it goes wrong.

You can opt out at the moment but from 15th April simple delivery is compulsory.

The prices are wrong. Royal Mail tracked 48 small parcel up to 2kg is currently £3.39 if you buy it through ebay. Simple delivery will charge £4.47 for the same thing. Presumably ebay pocket the difference. A seller also cannot charge a little extra for packaging. There also seems to be an issue with combined postage because you will only select the parcel size per item when listing. So if someone buys 2 items, each weighing 1.9kg, you will only get a label for 2kg. Ebay will then charge the seller for any parcel weighing over what you have selected.

Checking on a listing - you have 2 options for postage, 'normal' and 'express' - but it doesn't give the choice over exactly what the express service that's being selected - does the ebay system know that if it's a high value item, the express service should be Special Delivery?   Also, sending special delivery meant sellers got paid a lot sooner, as, their items were fully trackable to delivery - Tracked 24 is the worst service in the world with Royal Mail and no better than second class.  If it gets lost in the post, who makes the claim?

I'd prefer to be in control of my own postage for my own peace of mind.

Sellers are slowly being frozen out, losing even more control over their items, handing it directly to the buyers.

Simple Delivery

We’re continuing our mission to provide you with a great selling experience on eBay, which is why we made it free to sell. Now, we’re improving delivery so it’s faster, easier, and more secure for you to send your items.

Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items. There’ll be a few exceptions, such as low-priced, bulky items, and local pick-up, which aren’t eligible for Simple Delivery.

What is Simple Delivery?

Simple Delivery is our all-in-one delivery solution, designed to cut out all of the effort and save you money. It’s also the fastest way to get paid on eBay. Plus, buyers will benefit from savings and enjoy the peace of mind that tracking offers. Here’s how it works:

  • 1.

When listing, we’ll recommend the size and weight of your item. Just confirm and we’ll do the rest.

  • 2.

Once your item sells, you’ll receive both a printer-less QR code and a prepaid printable label, so you can choose what’s easiest.

  • 3.

Drop off your item at the nearest carrier location, or schedule a home collection and you’re done!

You’ll still be able to choose the carriers by going to Postage Preferences in your account settings. We recommend enabling all carriers for the most competitive postage rates.

Benefits of Simple Delivery

Simple Delivery offers a faster and easier experience:

  • Fastest way to get payments: Get your funds 2 days after delivery confirmation when using our prepaid labels.

  • Save 20% off postage costs*: Get competitive rates to offer standard and express delivery with Royal Mail and Evri.

  • Full protection: Enjoy peace of mind with eBay's full coverage for items lost or damaged in transit, where we handle claims with buyers so you don’t have to.

  • Free postage option: Choose if you want your buyer to pay for the label, or offer free postage and cover the cost.

  • Prepaid and tracked labels: Labels come with automatic tracking so buyers always know where their items are.

  • Flexible labels: Use a QR code for quick printing at drop-off locations, or easily print your own label at home.

  • Positive feedback: From late April, you’ll automatically receive positive feedback for tracked transactions delivered on time, where no feedback has been left within 7 days and no issues are reported, so you get the recognition you deserve. Learn more about this change.

Simple Delivery will apply to new eligible listings by private sellers in the UK, and from 7 April to any existing listings that are eligible. If you selected buyer-paid postage, this will stay the same when your listings are updated. If you’re covering the costs, they’ll be deducted from your sales. Click the button below to see what’s eligible.

We’re also updating our User Agreement and eBay delivery Terms and Conditions to reflect these changes.

Simple Delivery

This is the final nail in Ebay's coffin for me as an occasional seller.  Currently I just take the package to the Post Office and they weigh it for me.  Now I'm going to have to weigh and size every item myself.  How is that more simple?  Also, for low value items, I don't pay extra for tracking, and for letter sized items, tracking makes a difference of ££ not pence.  Coupled with the time-consuming difficulties now of having to work out a competitive price against commerical sellers who don't have to account for "buyer's premium", I've had enough.  Anything that doesn't sell between now and 15th April will be removed and that will be the end of selling on Ebay for me.

Loaded a test listing, had same issue, ebay price quoted exceeds the one Royal Mail website quotes.

Logged out and looked at the test listing, the postage price was completely different to what I was told it would be as the seller!!

Before doing all this I'd deselected Evri within Account Settings/Postage Preferences, so I was expecting Royal Mail, but from the listing no idea what courier the customer thinks they would be getting.

What a mess!

Simple Delivery

As far as I can see, on my desktop, when I select postage it is outside of simple delivery - but that seems to be going to change on the 7th.
I can't do Evri drop off - I'm not going to ask someone to drive me 8 miles to do that. And on the app the postage for royal mail 48 was wrong (24 was correct).
The chat conversation I had some time back was therefore misleading - they said that even in the future I would be able to opt out. Some information I read today implies that I will still be able to arrange a collection with Royal Mail, and on the page about simple delivery its says

"Just follow the instructions and drop off your item at the nearest carrier location, or schedule a home collection where available. Then you’re done."

It costs more to arrange a collection with Evri. And probably any other carrier - except Royal Mail.

I guess I'll check the items I'm relisting on the 7th and if I can't send royal mail I'll have to stop selling after nearly 20 years

Just did the same - when doing the listing, it said that it would be from £2.74 upwards, then the live listing shows £2.28 Standard Tracked & £2.92 Express Tracked. I'm presuming this is Tracked 48 & Tracked 24, but with no delivery carrier shown even though I specified Royal Mail, who knows...

What a mess.

I've just discovered it's the same for the buyer. I bought something yesterday from a business seller. I had no option to select a courier. Postage just said standard tracked - I assumed royal mail. I've just had an email, my ebay parcel its on its way - via evri

got this email today:

"Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items. There’ll be a few exceptions, such as low-priced, bulky items, and local pick-up, which aren’t eligible for Simple Delivery"

this mens Evri standard is going to be the only option for some parcels.

I tried to use them for 2 years, had lots of problems especially before Xmas. I sell live plants / perishable items. They have to go Next Day/24h to be nice and fresh otherwise i have lots of problems especially when its cold and frosty. Standard delivery is NOT an option for perishable goods. The other problem is that I DON'T DRIVE and DON'T HAVE PRINTER. Will have to drag 5-10 parcels to a Parcel Shop, when now I can get free royal mail collection they brig the labels.

to summarise SIMPLE DELIVERY IS RUBBISH and it will probably force me NOT TO SELL some items on ebay

I have gone into my postage preferences for Simple Delivery and removed evri. Perhaps that will work. https://www.ebay.co.uk/ship/prf/simpledelivery
although I use evri for lightweight larger than small parcel size. But I suppose I can cover the cost for Evri collection over royal mail and have HUGE message on the listing saying it will be sent Evri.

Out of interest, did you message the seller to see if they'd chosen not to use Evri in Simple Delivery?

When we deselect a courier, ebay makes the buyer pay more for the one we do choose:

That is so wrong. The buyer has no say in what options a seller chooses and as a buyer, there are certain couriers I don't use because they are useless - why should I be penalised for that. Its not like ebay will be paying the couriers more, it is pure profiteering
