Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Simple Delivery

I've now found the page where it says you don't have to use Simple Delivery if your item is under £10 / 100g.   Here is the link for anyone else who hasn't yet found this page:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/simple-delivery?id=5575#El...

 Would it have been so difficult for ebay to put that in the original email?  It's not even on the page that you click through to from the email.  You have to drill down to find it.

@wendybing

The way they originally announced Simple Delivery there was absolutely no way combined invoicing would be compatible with it.

For one it doesn't seem to account for padding/packing.

I believe there are some reports that CS are saying there may be a combined option in the future but CS have a proven reputation of talking bs.

... And when it says "The option to opt out will only be available for items under £10 and weighing 100g or under", does it mean with or without the Buyer's Premium.  You could list an item for £9.50 but the Buyer's Premium would take it over £10.  Why can't they be clearer, it's all so sloppy.

@moonlight-rhapsody

It's not sloppy, it's deliberate.

Read through the forums here, any subject and a pattern forms.

eBay are anti transparency and most of their policies are clear as mud.

My bet is that they do it so nobody understands what is happening, that way if they complain, CS can throw them off with any old bs.

Which is also another common theme that appears in the forum.

All comes down to the fact that Ebay are losing sellers to Vinted and they are going down their route now. As far as I can see private sellers would be better selling through Vinted.

Royal Mail charge the same for the whole of the UK. Also includes Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
ParcelForce charge more. But Royal Mail goes up to 20kg

You can opt out of either evri or royal mail, but ebay will then charge your buyers more. I am opting out of evri, not because I don't like them, our local service is really good, (only had 2 problems with Evri over many years an empty broken box delivered and an expensive book lost, but they paid me for that) but because it's a 16 mile round trip for drop off, I only use collection, which costs more and I can't top it up. I use Evri for large items under 1kg

the chart has been posted by a couple of peoplesimple delivery prices.jpg

I can see that they might overide an opt out of Royal Mail in those circumstances.

Honestly, we aren't making this up. They added that breakout clause just after they announced sellers would have a choice and then they updated terms and conditions to include that breakout clause.

With eBay you always have to check the legal speak because they always leave themselves wriggle room.

eBay are out for money at the moment and in Simple Delivery terms, their maximum profit margins is almost certainly the following combination.

Seller deselects Evri, buyer gets highest tariff rate, eBay still use Evri because they can.

If money is what they are after and everything points to that then it makes sense to look at the breakouts they leave themselves.

click contact us on help page, start automated chat then ask to speak to an advisor. Sometimes a chat with an advisor is useful as the conversation is saved, but I got wrong information when I asked about the future use of simple delivery!

I'll be trying to speak to someone at ebay before the end of the week. I can't do Evri, I can't ask someone to drive me on a 16 mile round trip. I'll just list everything as being over 20kg...

@incredible_how

"I'll just list everything as being over 20kg... "

Again, that falls under terms and conditions and they left reprisals wide open for people trying to circumvent their systems.

I'm not telling you what to do, that's your choice.

But their new terms and conditions have been written by some very sneaky people and it's in your self interest to take them seriously.

Also CS have a proven reputation of talking bs. Phone and chat, doesn't make any difference.

I've got transcripts full of stuff they told me which is nearly all wrong and could have lost me money.

Yes I realise it's a reckless thing to try!!

I have spoken to someone now and they have taken note of what I am asking - both that they would never do an evri label if my settings are royal mail and that postage is more if I opt only to use royal mail (because I can't do evri) which took him some time to understand as he didn't seem aware of it. Also mentioned that I now can't do large under 1kg evri collection postage, which means higher postage in some cases too.
I hope to get a reply back in a couple of days.

I think he kept thinking that I meant if the buyer was not in an Evri area but got it in the end and implied I could cancel if an evri label was issued... If I don't hear anything or don't get assurances that an Evri label will never be issued. There was an implication that further carriers will be added, but that still doesn't really help in terms of requiring collection rather than drop off

So we've got until the 15th April...then this awful Simple Delivery becomes compulsory.

Having not listed anything for a couple of months in revolt over their new system, I'm now going to list anything and everything - fast

After the 15th....bye ebay.

you can opt for only royal mail but the prices are more expensive than when you opt for both - and more expensive than the actual RM price, which I think is discriminatory - my nearest Evri drop off is 8 miles away and I don't drive... I have complained today - the person I spoke to didn't seem to realise that the prices were higher for those who only opt for RM.

BUT yes the downside is that you can't request postie brings label.

Does anyone know of an app that will create vinted listings from ebay ones? Would avoid wasting all that time I've spent creating my current 497 individual items.
