Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

Hi,

Reluctantly, I will be ending my listings by the end of the week, but will probably be dragged kicking and screaming into simple delivery. Having created my first simple delivery listing as a test, just a couple of questions. I have thankfully excluded Evri from my listing by using the 'postage preferences' in my account.

Looking at the postage options in the listing once live, available to the buyer are two options, standard tracked and express tracked delivery. It doesn't specify what these are. Other than select parcel size, I was at no point able to select a royal mail postage service like previously. Is it, hopefully due to the compensation level, RM Tracked 48 and Tracked 24 ? Please not second class signed for, lol.

With the international shipping, i have not opted for international postage in the postage options tab, but confusingly the 'excluded locations' tab further down the page is still showing and there are no excluded locations filled in. Furthermore, does anyone know if you can include international postage for some listings, and opt out for others ? Previously, it was either a blanket yes or no.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply and feel free to ask any other questions in the thread if you want to. Simple delivery, unfortunately is here.

Thanks

It is the small independent post offices that are losing out on this SD because they work on a commission, where as larger post offices staff get a wage so small post offices will be closing ,it is really awful .

The post office have taken over the high street banking functions, Evri drop off points, cash, govt functions including universal credit and passports, foreign currency, digital identity building, Bill payment services, retail stationary and envelopes, payzone payments for tickets, transport  in fact over 170 services and the non related shop  products.

They get paid for all post collected by the sack including SD packages

One small post office near us is part of a pub called the pint and post - must tell the regulars that the pub is being closed by ebay simple delivery !  Do you think the brewery will also be put out of business by SD !

When exactly do you get to see this scan saying 'item received at  xyz DO ' ?

According to Royal Mail within 24 hours

Until  lost or damaged claims start to be made under SD it is almost impossible to predict how ebay will treat the received at post office scan, but purely based on the current tracking for business account holders the first update is seller preparing to dispatch - then item received at xxx DO which is when it enters RM's network.

The scan at the post office if accepted for SD  as entering RM network would work in the same way  but the receipt would be worthless for SD.

The problem that stemmed these posts was the number of members complaining when they asked the PO to print a label that they were refusing to do so without weighing and sizing the package and checking the label service from the QR code -

often telling the seller that it was incorrect and refusing to print the label unless the seller purchased another label - which would be a really silly thing to allow a post office to do because the seller would be paying for a new label which woud lose enhanced protection.

Of course the buyer would have a nice surprise when they received a postage refund from ebay.

If a seller really wants to allow the post office to vet their package and obtain a postal receipt they need to be absolutely certain that the estimated weight and size is sufficient and if not  enter their own or pay out of their own pockets for a new label or simply don't give it to the PO counter staff to check and forego the postal receipt, download the app and get one from the app without the PO staff at the post office making you spend your money !

But hey if sellers are happy to support the local post office by giving them money for nothing - good on them - doubt the post office will give you free postage when money is short !

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

Ourmain  post office that we generally use  have been turning people away if their parcels with SD labels on are not the right size or weight to cover the postage ,The post office is seperate from the royalmail so royalmail and ebay need to tell the PO that they should take these parcels because at the moment the PO are obviously  not part of the deal .Also a couple of days ago my partner and I Called into a post office that we don't use ,just to see how things would pan out using SD and they didn't know what we were talking about never heard of SD .

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

My friend bought a small post office 2 years ago she owns it, so works on commision for every royal mail parcel /letter they deal with ,she told me 2 days ago because of the SD she won't be getting money from the parcels/letters  because of the deal ebay have done with royal mail for cheaper postage . The larger Post offices staff get a wage so doesn't matter what they handle they get paid by the hour 8am -5.30 pm by the post office .

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

The post office on their website NOT Royal Mail state that they will print the label at the post office on presentation of the QR code  - hand the label back to the customer - the customer then can affix the label to the package and then hand the package with the label fixed to the package back to the post office  for posting.

Either the post office are giving false information or it is receiving resistance from post office branches  who will lose some income but will for sure be paid the 'sack rates'

What? EBay have done a deal with Royal Mail for cheaper postage?

but eBay are grossly overcharging us over RM postage prices to the public

omg

but I’m thinking why did RM do a deal with them

why on earth do RM think they will gain off it

i really don’t understand

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

Fees and investment

How much money would I make?

You get paid a fee for every Post Office transaction – the more you sell the more you earn on postage, home shopping returns, Local Collect parcel collection, travel money, easy bill payments, e top-ups, banking transactions and much more.   So now ebay and royal mail are dictating the costs the small postoffices will earn less ,before SD they were getting up to 9% . Now the SD labels are already pre paid so the small postoffices aren't selling the postage .

Talk to your friend again  even if they own the businesss all sub postmasters and postmasters are paid  a salary and must be hands on in the business.  Of course this depends on hours worked  -

Don't take my word for it simply read through the Post office info  https://runapostoffice.co.uk/faqs#how-much-money-would-i-make

In addition to the income from sales, there is also a salary to be had for operating the post office.

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

Ask your friend how much the post Office paid last year as a one off payment and what the increases were that were paid for 24/25 - funded from the online sales of labels

Perhaps your friend only feeds you the bits that they want to !

They will be getting a guaranteed amount of business from it and it will prevent eBay from taking that business elsewhere.

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

I stand corrected - a small sub post office may opt for the post master to be paid as a commission / fees on sales and services as a salary  - this would vary depending on the type of transaction

A fixed salary is also paid if they are registered for banking services

Re: Simple Delivery, just a couple of questions. lol

Here's what the post office have to say !

They added that the Post Office has issued training to branches that each Simple Delivery item should be accepted as long as it is within the maximum dimensions the carrier accepts.

For the Royal Mail this is 61cm x 46cm x 46cm and less than 20kg.

The Post Office said it apologises to any customer who may have had a parcel declined.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Customers can still drop off eBay parcels at our branches.

"A recent agreement between eBay and Royal Mail means Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 items no longer need to be weighed or size checked, making drop-offs at our branches even quicker.

"Postmasters were informed at the end of February and are adapting to this new process.”

They don't mean Tracked 24 and Tracked 48, do they? They mean ebay simple delivery items.

I posted a Tracked 48 item at my local post office on Friday and they still had to check the weight.

They have to put in whatever the system requests otherwise they can't complete the scan into the system and give me a proof of posting.

Yes they were making a statement regarding ebay SD packages being refused at certain branches of the post office network  and referred to the RM48 and 24 tracked items
