Simple Delivery forced against sellers

Simple Delivery encourages Seller away from EBay.
We have the responsibility as a seller to post the item, but when  I chose to post it directly with my account in Royal Mail

alas ! The buyer as the buyer has been charged for Simple Delivery

Even though the label has not been used, EBay will refund the postage to the  buyer and as a result the seller is out of pocket . This is literarily putting a strain on sales and thus forcing prices up and for the seller to be forced and have no other choice but to use Simple Delivery and once you click,  there are no other options to opt out or change or cancel . For example if the buyer wants the item the next day. So if the simple delivery is not used there is NO WAY to use another label because once the simple delivery is clicked you are forced to use it .  The seller then uses their own funds to post the item without having any funds sent by the buyer because Ebay have put a hold on the seller until seller  has posted the item. Simple Delivery NOT USED by  the seller is refunded to the buyer????  (WHY? I ask ALSO WERE IS THE PROOF ? ) if the seller has posted the item using an  external route because ebay have locked postage to simple delivery the Seller looses postage even though the buyer wants to pay. You call that FAIR? I call it a defrauding trick.

Ebay have really messed this up and there is no good or honest explanation other than to fix the Process and change it to support both seller and buyer without forcing any one to use an inept system. Change the process CODING  that runs on Ebay.

SO DISSATISFIED , EBAY WAS POPULAR BUT NOW ITS LOOSING SELLERS

THIS WILL REFLECT ON THE BUYERS WHO WILL SHOP ELSEWHERE AS THE CHOICE IS REDUCED!

Do you have full control of your postage choices on amazon and vinted?

Re: Simple Delivery forced against sellers

You can use your own Royal Mail delivery method, but will need to factor it into the item price because you'll be paying for it yourself. It'll also need to be a trackable method if you want to claim back the Simple Delivery label cost:

If you don't use the Simple Delivery label provided, you or your buyer will be refunded, depending on who paid for postage.

  • If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days
  • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.

To process your refund, we'll verify the following:

    • The label was paid for by you (you offered free shipping to the buyer).
    • The refund request is created within 14 days from the item's sale.
    • The label wasn't used within 14 days of the item's sale.
    • The package was delivered using a different tracking number.

If your request meets all these conditions, you'll receive a refund for the shipping cost.

Simple Delivery isn't designed to be avoided and ebay probably don't want to encourage that so getting refunds for unused labels paid for by either the buyer or seller is hardly going to be quick and easy.

If they improved SD in the various, well described on this forum, aspects of it that are awful then maybe people would feel less inclined to hate it or seek refunds on unused labels. Or ebay could just take the hit and not make it mandatory. At the moment it's not clear what they are working on or if they are even planning to do anything at all which is most unsatisfactory as SD (and buyer tax) is still frankly not good enough or as good as what we had.

People feel a sense of loss and ebay's heavy foot on their face which will encourage them to try elsewhere.

Re: Simple Delivery forced against sellers

Do you know you now have Custom Postage choice for most of your items because they are either oversized or £20 and under? The oversized ones are already set up correctly. To set up the £20 and under items choose Simple Delivery > Large Letter. This should make Custom Postage appear. Then you can enter your own courier (regardless of the actual size/weight) just as you did for the oversized furniture.
