Simple Delivery...Low cost items exempt ..... this is what CS say

Thank you for contacting us here at eBay Customer Service regarding our Simple delivery. I understand that you have been notified about this service and you would like to know if low priced items are exempted and what can be considered as low-priced item. My name is John March, and as this is my expertise, I am very interested to resolve your concern and put your mind at ease.

I appreciate you in letting us know about your concern and we are here to make everything understandable. I have done an attentive review and to answer your question, Yes Simple Delivery is optional for items that has low price and lightweight (100g or under) that can fit in an envelope. A low item priced is considered equal or below £10. I just want to put your mind at ease as well that you can choose the Custom postage option instead of the Simple delivery.

I am confident I have answered and RESOLVED your query. Thank you again for contacting eBay. We appreciate your business! Cheers to more lovely years and future transactions with eBay. Have a nice day ahead!

Kind Regards,
John March

Simple Delivery...Low cost items exempt ..... this is what CS say

I sell low cost items (under £10) which are under 100g and fit in a large letter sized envelope.

I understand these are exempt from the simple delivery. However it is not possible to select a large letter under 100g in the postage setting and therefore switch to custom postage.

Can anyone help with this?

There is currently an issue that Simple Delivery not offering Custom Postage to oversize items,  lightweight items and those under £10,  these are all exempt from Simple Delivery.

There is a workaround.

From the link below Go To Solution and follow  the advice in Rick's answer to list your item.  It can be adapted for lightweight items,  too.

I have followed this solution (for oversized items) and it does work however it is a real pain because you have to change the starting price, adjust the package size, then go back and change the starting price. It does not work every time and often reverts to simple delivery. This solution is not one I’m going to go through for all my listings as I have more than 200!
Ebay says simple delivery is exempt for items under £10 and letter sized envelopes under 100g Their system does not allow you to select this size and weight (they only have large letter up to 1kg and therefore I simple delivery is the only option that appears.
Ebay needs to provide the service that they say they will.

You are correct it is a faff, maybe OK to do for one or two,  but definitely not for your 200!

It's an issue that needs correcting asap,  but seemingly no fix date still not announced!

Mind boggling! 🤔

I've been on eBay long enough to remember when eBay didn't include postage in what they charged, as a result, everyone priced their items at 99p, and the real price was in the postage.

Now this old trick can be used to totally get around the simple Delivery.

1. Price everything below £10

2. claim weight of item is under 100g

3. Doing this will give you the Option of Custom postage. Select this option.

4. Choose your preferred postage company

5. Add the value of the item as the postage amount

If any customer asks why the postage is so high, tell the truth: you are saving them money.

One last thing, set your option to postage only. You don't want somebody coming to collect your £100 item for 99p.

I believe this is the one true way to beat the stupid simple postage nightmare. Until ebay get wind of it.

'If any customer asks why the postage is so high, tell the truth: you are saving them money.'

Would you also tell the truth if the customer asks why they are paying a BPF on top of the price when they buy from you?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am unable to set the weight to under 100g as the only postage option that comes up is Large Letter up to 1kg.

If I change the starting bid to £800 (which removes the simple delivery setting) and set the custom postage rate and then go back and change the starting bid back to under £10, it automatically reverts to simple delivery.

I never got that work around to work either, but as discussed on another thread, no one searches by sub category so it doesn't really matter which one you use. Just find one that works.
