Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

I have been using Simple Delivery for a few weeks now and it has been going well,no complaints from me so far.  Sold three separate items.to the same buyer last night and eBay issued me with what I thought was three labels (QR codes), for three parcels.

Took them to The Post Office this morning with my phone and the first one scanned alright and printed a label. When the second and third QR codes were scanned the Post Master got a message on his screen saying that this QR code has already been used and no matter how he tried he couldn't get the second and third labels  printed.

In the end I gave up completely perplexed 'bit the bullet' and just paid for them out of my own pocket. Is this a fault in the system, is the problem with me or has the PM not done something that he should have?

It would be nice to know as I have another multi-purchase pending sending. Any advice would be welcome.

I am leaning toward it being my or the Post Master's fault. I will try and speak to Customer Services over the next 36 hours.

Thanks again.

Re: Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

Do you have a device like an android phone that you can use to read QR codes?

If so then point it at the codes from the eBay emails either printed out or on a computer monitor.

It will probably vary depending on your device how this is displayed to you but it should include for example the buyer and sender address and the Royal Mail tracking number (when I tried this it matched the eBay printable label for the same parcel).

If you do that you should at least be able to narrow down where things have gone wrong by seeing if you have three tracking numbers or one.

Re: Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

Good Evening Welling

Thank you for the detailed advice. Unfortunately I only have my Iphone, consequently I can't do as you suggest, nevertheless I appreciate your efforts.

I rang customer services this morning and unfortunately got someone whose grasp of english wasn't too good.  He admitted that this was a first for him and basically that he was stumped.  I suggested that he needed more time to work on this and he agreed and also said that he needed to speak to his team and ask their advice.

For what it is worth, and I really don't hold out any hope of getting an answer, he is going to call me again

tomorrow. He probably will but I have lost heart and given up hope. I will just put it down to experience.

Generally speaking if it wasn't for you and numerous other people on the boards doing eBay's unpaid work for them, then we mere mortals would be stuffed.

Thank you all again but I think that I will conclude this sorry saga, unless of course something startling happens tomorrow. But I won't hold my breath.

Thanks to all concerned ie board members.

Dingo

What between eBay and The Post Office I have been slowly driven mad. It strikes me they are a pair well matched. Someone ought to tell eBay that the secret of success is to get it right first time.

Actually I realised you may not actually need to scan the QR code. Assuming you have three separate emails with the QR codes have a look and see if they have PDF files attached containing the eBay generated labels. If they do then open them and take a look at the tracking number that is directly underneath the barcode - if it was meant to be three separate parcels you should have a different tracking number on each of the three labels.

Re: Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

The OP can confirm, but it seems to be three different tracking numbers - as you would expect for 3 separate payments.

In that case if the three tracking numbers are different maybe someone else can chime in with how to  scan the QR code on an iPhone to see what it contains. It may be that on top of the tracking number there's some kind of unique id in the QR code that has been mistakenly duplicated across the three labels.

@wellingnorth

I think you maybe correct and this is a software/technical hitch.
There is nothing the PO counter clerk can do once the duplicate scan message comes up on the horizon screen, so the only way to proceed for seller is to buy postage.

It happened to me on a Vinted sale, my guess is it’s a RM issue.
I only lost £3, but I wonder if this is happening on a larger scale and users have no idea where to start the complaint as eBay and Vinted CS are useless when it comes to Royal Mail processes.

Re: Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

your comment does not really make sense.  What do you expect the PM to do different?  He scanned the first one through first and it worked and there is no reason to suppose that he did not do the same actions with the other two.  Possibly a post office/e bay computer glitch  but hardly likely the PMs fault.

Re: Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

In the last couple of months in the post office (nothing to do with Simple Delivery) I've had the PM state the wrong price for the service I've asked for; given me a different international tracking label to the service I've asked for, etc. etc.

I've not heard anyone else on these forums mention a similar problem to the OP, but I state in message 18 it could well be "some fault (bug) somewhere." - ebay software does occasionally have faults as does the post office.

There's no way of knowing, and the OP has posted those items anyway. Hopefully when he/she posts their next lot, all will work fine.

Re: Simple Delivery: It was going so well until

I would suggest that if you are able to print labels at home it's definitely safer to do that and avoid the QR code for now. As well as this problem the other issue is that (at least as of a couple of weeks ago) the Post Ofifice printed QR code labels display a weight and format so there's more of a chance that your parcel may be refused if there's a discrepancy.
