Simple Delivery - Buyer's Item Sent to Wrong Address

Need advice as an extremely occasional seller and first time using eBay simple delivery.  I sold and sent an item via eBay simple delivery and the buyer is claiming it wasn't delivered to the correct address.  There is a photo and tracking in place but the courier was Evri so I'm inclined to believe them.

I advised they do an 'item not received' claim as per the faq but this was automatically resolved and their claim rejected. I could literally hang them out to dry if I wanted but would rather try to help.  I'm reluctant to manually refund them up front but any suggestions as to what to try next?

If you posted to the name and address eBay provided on the order details for the item, and tracking shows it reached said address, your responsibility ends there,  no need to refund,  and entering those tracking number into any case the buyer opens,  will close it in your favour.

Unfortunately,  some members forget to update their delivery address on their eBay account when moving house,  an easy thing to do,  so it can be delivered to a previous registered address.  This could have happened here.

What does the tracking show?  Does it show ad delivered to the address that they provided?

With simple delivery ebay are supposed to be responsible for loss or damage in transit.  So the buyer needs to contact ebay to pursue this. You should not be responsible for refunding.

Not looking forward to the simple delivery, I live in south Manchester and just had a postable parcel put through the letterbox and the address is for an Oldham address 17 miles away only thing that's the same on the address is the house no unbelievable.

I hardly see how simple delivery itself would be at fault for that - or would indeed make that issue worse. I would imagine a percentage of post gets sent to the wrong address every day and has done for years.

Talking of buyers' addresses, ebay currently often doesn't get the address right in the "Post your item" page (or whatever it's actually called).

Firstly, buyers sometimes don't give their address accurately as in Royal Mail's  postcode database, so I always check it and if necessary correct it.

Secondly, ebay often tries to 'correct' an address wrongly like this: the buyer gives, say,

Street

District

Town

Postcode

and ebay asks whether you mean

Street

Town, District

Postcode

which is done in France (e.g. Lens – Noyelles) or Germany (e.g. Berlin, Wilmersdorf), but not in the UK.

If with Simple Delivery there will be no opportunity to adjust addresses, items may go astray.

It's not an uncommon scenario where an item is delived , but not to the right address. Ebay don't have a system for this I have had miss deliveries from Yodel , RM , Evri.

Yodel even mark the item as delivered when it reaches one of thier depos , then the tracking changes ,

THe buyer will need to go to ebay CS and contest the delievry.

As it's "Simple Delivery" you need to do nothing, you should not refund and if you get negative feedback it will be removed..

What was the overall outcome please or can anyone offer help because I am in the same boat and just keep getting passed from eBay to the courier.  Ebay found in my favour but I want to help the buyer get the situation resolved.  The buyer opened an 'item not received' claim which I suggested and was rejected.   The courier has accepted fault but will not compensate the buyer and tells her to go back to the retailer.  I can't really get anywhere with the courier either as the seller.  I sent a message as you can't talk to anyone and got this reply edited -

'We will liaise with the retailer to inform them of this outcome. I would recommend you also contact them as it is within their gift to discuss next steps and consider the options available to you.'

I have sent proof of the mid-delivery to eBay.  Surely there needs to be a better system in place because this is certainly not 'simple delivery' when there is a problem.

I tried phoning the courier and an automated voice said my situation was under investigation.  We just go around in circles.

Most couriers couriers now take pictures when the deliver a item . You normally would this via the Evri website . I guess this should still be available even with Simply Delivery , also they save coordinates where the parcel was delivered to . I do not know how you check but my guess someone could advise you on that .
