Should Ebay restrict the amount of times an item relists automatically?

Purhaps restrict to 6 times (6 months) if no other action has been taken. Ie new price, new photos, sell similar.

If sellers are active and motivated to sell nothing will change. If sellers stick an item on and do nothing again ever, it just clogs up the website an makes a bad serch experience even worse.

On superEbay, a mythical site of my imagination, where most problems are quickly and correctly solved, I'd agree with you.  But the real Ebay has so many horrible issues and policies, adding another change for them to partially implement while breaking something else at the same time?  No, just no.

As with the above response, if eBay could be trusted to bring in your suggestion without making an almighty mess of it, I would definitely be in favour.

The seller can always manually re-list any items if they particularly want to.

eBay have a ‘fair use policy’ where listings become inactive after 12 months under certain conditions.

I have an imaginary site too. Super Ebay is a great name. My delivery system is called "very simple delivery"

We could help if only they were listening. What a tragic state of affairs when people say "great idea, but they'd only mess it up"

The problem's made worse by the hiding of listings &/or bad search results.... For example, I looked for a bath plug yesterday & mostly got electrical plugs!!!

Auctions auto relist 8 times only and I had always assumed fixed price listings were the same.

I feel like the relisting in general wouldn't be an issue if ebay just ensured they weren't repeatedly showing the relisted item to the same users - in my saved searches for example I often get the same items appearing week after week.

As a seller I think relisting is a good thing as I have done the work taking photos describing, etc. and items can sell after several years as someone new may arrive on ebay who is interested in the item.

However once an item has appeared in a user's search results or saved searches a few times I'm very happy for ebay not to bother showing it to them again for a while at least.

The workings of the search function is something they are completely in denial about. I search for something the other day lowest priced order, you get about 40 listings. Sort the same description  on best match more like 40 plus pages.

I think the chance of something selling after years without doing a "sell similar" is very low TBH which is why Ebay should encourage sellers to do it. BIN items go on much longer that 8 times. But just because they relist does not put them at the top of the search list.
