Selling

Can't understand eBay's policy where you advertise an item for sale in auction, with best offer available. But then someone bids on it straight away to then prevent anyone making an offer. This seems to be a bit unfair as it happens a lot of the time , surely eBay needs to review this as it doesn't give the seller much of a best offer opportunity. Thoughts please

The Best Offer feature works same as it does for a real life auction house, it gives buyers the opportunity to make a good offer and purchase the item before bidding starts. Once it does and the auction is under way it's removed.

Simply start your auction price at the lowest you'd be happy to accept or use fixed price Buy It Now listing format with an added Best Offer if you have a good idea of what your item is worth.

Ebay don't need to do anything, it will be potential buyers knowing the system so they will put a bid in to knock that feature off, to ensure they don't lose the item if they want it.

The only time the make an offer  is of benefit is to use it in conjunctions with BINS. If you price properly though you in theory don't need the feature at all.

My business was a finalist in the ebay business awards 2023.
