In the context of small items that are typically disc based movies, just what kind of sellers think it acceptable to offer R-M 2Nd class even when I make it clear that I wish to pay the exyta for R-M 48 hour tracked?
I live about an hour south of Birmingham.
I do not believe that it is a lot more effort to allow R-M 48 hour tracked upon request.
I don't sell, but find it strange that Ebay allow sellers to receive payment without proof that the customer has received their order

The point of that sentence, was the second part of it!
In all the time I have been selling, I maybe have had 3/4 with faster delivery and never next day.

You clearly went above and beyond to drive 5 miles there.
I'll be truthful I'm not really a fan of Royal Mail because they are to vague with their delivery window. Divert to a post office is a good compromise.
‘other 48 hour courier’ ought to be good enough for everyone, as long as there is tracking.
DPD are a top company, I have always had good experience with them.
Though too late now, I'm sirprised that they do not offer pick up.
As I recall, like with R-M and others the customer can reschedule a delivery if they need to

A couple of weeks ago I had an eBay buyer that paid extra for T24. it's never happened before, and I doubt it will happen again.
Maybe, just maybe, one day an eBay buyer will pay £9 extra for Special Delivery. That'll be a first!
However, buyers on Etsy and my website are gannets for T24 and SD. They love throwing money at RM.

I'm not the buyer that you refer to, so only my view of the situation.
I pay for R-M premium services because I've had bad experience with their cheap services.
On occasions, I've had R-M 48 tracked take 5 days or more for no reason.

I no longer sell on this site due to SD (partly because i object to having tracked postage added to the price - whether i pay it or the buyer). I have never had any of my RM parcels go missing whether as a buyer or seller. My items were mainly low value and unwanted clothes, why should i have wasted money on tracking them? Was i a bad seller, not at all. Apart from the odd one or two i always had good feedback and sold fairly regularly. I actually find your attitude very odd. If you do not like the service offered for despatch then do not buy, if it restricts people buying then that is for the seller to worry about. On the other sites i am on i again decide which way i will post and that is RM. If people do not like it, i actually do not care!

Another thing for you to think of........
Many sellers have health problems
Not everyone works.....some are retired after paying taxes for many many years and reliant upon pensions
Others may just get 30 mins lunch and work nowhere near a Post office or drop off centre
Many do not physically go shopping themselves and do it online
Sellers have to do what works for them dependant on their personal circumstances.
I live 30 mins or so North of Birmingham........what does have have to do with things please?

I would have just cancelled the sale 😁

Divert to a post office is a good compromise.
IF a buyer diverts an item from the actual delivery address........then i would be very surprised if Ebay would compensate you should it get lost.
Maybe a better compromise is.......have any items sent to a friend/family members address who you know will definitely be in to accept a delivery.
My son orders a lot of items online generally.......and we make sure we are around to accept them (usually designer clothes and expensive so we have to give a code before any parcel is handed over)

It also depends on what a seller is selling. I sell stamps and most of my buyers want a stamp on the envelope so that is what they get. I only offer 2nd class as standard. I pack, stick a stamp on, then it goes in my nearest postbox, job done. I sometimes sell higher value items, those items I upgrade to a tracked service at my own expense as buyers rarely request a tracked service, even if said item is over £1000, they just pay for 2nd class. For these items I buy postage online and book a collection.

This is so true! But so few people realise the limitations that life inflicts on others.
I have issues severly limiting my ability to walk. I don't drive. Most of my items get a stamp and go in the post box outside my flat. Bigger ones go second class stamped in the Parcel Box by the bus stop on the way to work.
I can't get to a Post Office at lunchtime, its not that sort of job, nor can I just "nip down the road" cos my legs won't do it.
Sending through a post office, or even collection from home, has to wait until a rare day off, and then its a £5 very tiring round trip to the post office where the queue is always out the door. Sometimes I even have to give up as I physically cannot stand in a queue for 30 minutes.
Before buyers whinge about "bad sellers" they should try walking in some of our shoes.

So true and i have great empathy.
I can and do get out BUT its only on good days as i am agraphobic
Try telling someone who works on a modern industrial site (15 mins walk to a bus stop) and does not drive........go to a PO or wherever in yr 30 mins lunch break
Some folk just think of themselves and never look at the larger picture

Isn't that the truth!
I would love to offer more shipping options, and give more business to the (sadly overcrowded) local post office, as I did in years gone by, but i simply can't!
I had to apologise to one buyer on another site last week as I thought I could post something and then had to put it off for a day as I just couldn't walk to the box, they were really understanding - as most buyers are when they know what the problem is.
Its just the odd few........

I offered both 48tracked & 2nd class parcel on my listings for ages. I think only one person out of hundreds chose 48tracked.
2nd class post still gives you a 'tracking' number, but only updates when delivered.
06-08-2025 2:13 PM
Are you quite sure that you mean 2nd class? RM48 provides proof of delivery, but is generally only available to business.
06-08-2025 3:15 PM
It may be rare but in the event of a not described claim the seller will lose the outward postage value. You may be willing to pay the extra but why should they in that scenario. It's even worse if someone demands express delivery. Ebay should only refund the buyer the basic postage cost, not any upgrades, but they do not do that.
06-08-2025 3:42 PM
You don't need to refund the extra cost of faster delivery in those situations.
Only the cost of the original delivery method.
So if sold as second class, that is what you refund, even if the buyer has opted and paid for Special delivery.
06-08-2025 6:27 PM
Yes 100 percent, many sellers only offer 2Nd class end of. RM48 tracked is the least that I trust. I'm sirprised that RM48 from the exact same post office is not available to individuals
06-08-2025 6:29 PM
stereosound, I'm interested in this '2nd class post still gives you a 'tracking' number, but only updates when delivered.' tracking, since when? Recorded delivery? is not tracked
06-08-2025 6:31 PM
I didn't say RM 48 TRACKED! I said RM48, it is a different service.
The tracked service is available from PO's etc.
06-08-2025 6:31 PM
yesa 100 percent, be upfront with people and they should understand
