Sellers - Stop using 'AI' nonsense for descriptions, you are losing sales....

It might seem an easy option but I won't buy from sellers who use the lazy option for descriptions, it's sometimes completely wrong or just nonsense and does not tell me want I want to know to make a buying descision so I don't.

I want real descriptions of the item not made up ones by a machine!

I recently looked at some Lens filters and I was informed they were circular, obviously the pics weren't a clue....LOL. What I want to know is the condition of the glass, nothing else not that they are a great item to have in my kit....Yawn.

Technology is even making websites dumb.

This problem is not the AI it's the person who is using it just because you don't like it does not make it useless, You need to know how to use the prompt, But I agree eBay AI is poor whereas chatGBT is better, What I normally do is take a description for the same products edit it the bits to match mine then ask chatgbt to improve the grammar and for my eBay description and make it more professional

If we are talking about used items rather than a business selling new or refurbished I don't think the description needs to be professional just a basic statement of essential fact eg condition make measurements etc. with good photos. I just don't want to be told how it will revitalise my wardrobe. I can decide that myself and it comes over as pushy selling which puts me off. Smacks of old style double glazing salesmen

You've not really read the thread have you....

People don't like it because it's generic uselss rinse and repeat c**p. simple really and it's not AI is it, as there's no such thing, if you want to start saying chatc**p is better, it's not, it just puts out the same nonsense but differently.

The fact that anyone needs a database to tell them what to say is just plain stupid in reality.

CGPT has nothing to do with this thread so please keep it on topic, thanks.

Re: Sellers - Stop using 'AI' nonsense for descriptions, you are losing sales....

If the description does not provide details regarding the actual item for sale the description is useless. I haven't yet seen a single AI description which was of any use, therefore they were all useless. Telling me the item is stylish or will enhance my kitchen or make me the envy of my friends is not useful.

as a private seller i prefer to actually save time by just putting in the facts about the item not having to edit it and still have to add in the facts!

Please remove the AI description feature. It's truly awful and of no help to buyers whatsoever.

Re: Sellers - Stop using 'AI' nonsense for descriptions, you are losing sales....

For a laugh I have listed this ...

Description: "Six inch in length piece of string'

Popped it into antiques category becuase I found it in the shed and it must be old.

AI has written description as below;

This is a unique piece of antique string measuring six inches in length. The string is perfect for collectors or enthusiasts who appreciate vintage items. It has been well-preserved and offers a glimpse into a bygone era. The string is ideal for display or as a decorative piece, and its authenticity adds to its charm. Whether you're an antique collector or just looking for a rare item to add to your collection, this piece of string is sure to impress.

😂😂😂

I haven't listed it ....just did it for a giggle.

Just found this gem for Perfect Dark on the N64. Most of this description is 100% incorrect:

"Rated PEGI 18, this game is perfect for those who love a challenge. With a PAL region code and published by Nintendo and Paradox Entertainment, you can enjoy this game on your Nintendo 64, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo GameCube. Get ready to experience the adrenaline rush of boxing with Perfect Dark."

Re: Sellers - Stop using 'AI' nonsense for descriptions, you are losing sales....

Another useless and ridiculous AI description - this is for an album called "Brass Monkey".

"This CD is a must-have for fans of So!, the iconic brass band from the 2000s. With a rating of Excellent (EX), you can expect nothing but the best from this album. Released in 2002 by Prestige Elite Records, this CD features 2616 seconds of pure brass goodness."

So! was a pop/rock band in the vein of Crowded House, not a brass band! I'm surprised the AI didn't say it was a band of monkeys who played brass instruments 😏

I'm assuming that the AI description for Eric Clapton's album "Money and Cigarettes" would state that Eric Clapton was an iconic packet of cigarettes!

I agree with you on this one i buy telescope eyepieces from ebay and i just think that people are using AI because they don`t know what they are selling and if you do take a punt on something you really want you end being disappointed and sending the item back time wasted

I look on here everyday at new listings, as a collector and noticed on alot of the descriptions, that they were identical or very close. At first, I thought people were copy and pasting descriptions, but clocked it the other day that it was this Ai thing 😚

I agree, needs to go and it's laziness!

Re: Sellers - Stop using 'AI' nonsense for descriptions, you are losing sales....

As someone who buys Camera Lenses I'm a bit sick and tired of the rinse and repeat descriptions and not one mention of the condition of the Lens or the most important part, the glass, I'm done with wasting my time and taking a punt and dealing with returns so I don't bother with any of the AI stuff at all.

Sometimes I fell like messaging sellers pointing out the description is either wrong or pointless but hey, more time wasting methinks.

Re: Sellers - Stop using 'AI' nonsense for descriptions, you are losing sales....

I have messaged a couple of sellers to let them know that details in the AI description were incorrect. In both instances, the sellers told me it wasn't their fault, they didn't do the description, it was provided by the AI. 🙄

Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.

Item not as described claims all the way  for buyers wanting to get a price reduction.

Either a significant increase in SNAD claims or a drop in sales as more and more buyers steer clear of listings as soon as they spot the AI description.

Artificial being the operative word here I think 😉

No intelligence about it...

As soon as I see its  A.I. generated... I am out  of there, no matter the item.
