Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

I have just sold an item to the winning bidder who  bid £7. They have paid £10.70 which is £7 + £1 buyer protection fee + £2.70 for postage . EBay have paid me just £7, deducting the fee AND the postage. I have informed them. Anyone else have this issue today? 30 Mar 25 .

My concern is a number of other listings that I have current AND will I get the postage fee to send the items off . eBay???

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

Sounds like the listing sold had simple delivery as the postage option so the buyer paid ebay for the postage label (so they can make more money) and then ebay send the label to you to either print out or as a QR code to take to the post office so they can scan it and print the label for you.

I have continued to opt-out so far of simple delivery so have not experienced selling an item myself when simple delivery is the postage option but believe the above to hopefully be correct.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

You have received the items sale price £7.00

Your buyer has paid eBay for the postage and buyer fee,eBay will send you a link to download  the label for you to print out or a QR code as said by wintersdawn1,you must use the label to send the item if you buy your own postage you will not be paid for it.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

Thanks for your reply. I understand now. All has gone smoothly with thus sale but it makes selling on eBay inflexible. That's postage but how do youu add on cost of packaging eg an lp mailer is around £1. Board back envelope 25p. Not sure I will be selling certain items on ebay unless there is a solution.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

Exactly the same thing has happened to me and I’m incensed that if you do your own postage via Royal Mail, ebay withhold that money.  I’ve just deleted all my listings as I don’t want to use Evri or other carriers. I just want to use Royal Mail! I want the choice of who I use to post my items!

I understand that you can restrict to only RM but not sure how at the
moment. EBay are certainly upsetting lots of small sellers with this
change.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

You can opt out of Evri via My eBay > Account tab > Selling > Postage Preferences > Simple Delivery > Courier Options > Edit

Or here's a direct link to the above:

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

If you are selling by auction or Buy It Now consider how you will package the item and its weight when creating the listing. Then add your anticipated costs  to your minimum bid / BIN price.  Always better to over-estimate and refund any excess to the buyer than find yourself  out of pocket.

Bit of an over reaction, you can select royal mail only in your postage preferences, it is not compulsory to use evri.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

Two posters have pointed out here that you can de-select Evri from the list of couriers recommended by eBay if you wish.

Neither have pointed out that doing so will increase the cost eBay will charge buyers for the postage. The cheapest rate is only available if you allow all carriers on eBay's list (which, at the moment, has only two)

My conclusion, BIN seems to be the answer! Otherwise packaging costs come
from your sale price if auction.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

eBay doesn't make any allowance for packing materials so you would have to add it to the sale price, this of course increases the buyer fee which eBay take-hmmm

I don't like the idea of simple delivery the way it is nor do i agree with a buyer fee,so much easier when only a seller fee, afterall eBay are providing a service to sellers but charging buyers for something they already had and still do with the eBaymbg

The bargains have mostly long gone from eBay for my type of purchases with many items a lot more expensive than elsewhere due to the fees

Exactly. It costs quite a bit more if you only select RM. I'm sure a lot of people will be caught out by this, especially if they hadn't realised Simple Delivery had been applied to their listings.

We have been stitched up like kippers.

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

I tend to agree with the points you make. No more last minute bids hoping
to get a bargain. CDs for example are already more expensive that you can
get elsewhere. I will be looking at alternatives, Vinted, buyer if it still
exists, for selling. Maybe even FB marketplace. EBay have obviously
concluded that they don't want small sellers, only businesses selling scrap
from China!

Re: Seller not receving postage paid by the buyer

Problem is everywhere is the same, vinted has buyer fees also which are a significant percentage on cheap items, most of the bargains on Facebook are job lots with collection.

Charity shops and Carboots are the best places for genuine bargains although Charities are getting expensive. Saying all this ive picked up masses of cds for under 50p at bootsales, in most peoples eyes they are considered a dead format which they are not although much of it is junk but we will let people keep thinking that, same happened with vinyl in the 00s.

Sorry if you were not referring to cds in particular.
