Seller claims they can only send by EVRI.

I bought a LP Record at £42.00 including postage . About 12 hours later I was checking my orders and noticed that Postage method was showing as Evri who only cover items up to £20 and Vinyl Records are exempt from loss or damage compensation.

I contacted the Seller and offered to pay more money for them to use Royal Mail. The Seller would not have lost any money as they had not posted. Seller said they could only use the pre paid Evri Label ...but I paid for that so again they would not be losing any money. As I understand things the Seller has the option to choose the postage at the time of listing ?.

The other problem is that Evri Couriers refuse to deliver to my address as I live on the 3rd floor of a Tenement Building and according to the couriers  we have caught dumping parcels in the Street they are not paid enough to climb upstairs. Since the 5th of August I have placed 22 orders all of them have been delivered except the one sent by Evri. They claim an attempt was made to deliver at a location near Glasgow on the 13th Aug yet by 14th Aug it was back at a depot in Sussex !!. Then it was "lost".

So there are 3 reasons why the item I ordered should not be sent with Evri. Listings for Vinyl Records should automatically have any postage option for EVRI disabled as they exempt Records from compensation claims.

As the record had not be sent yet, seller was not going to lose any money , and tracking details could still have been added I cannot understand the Sellers opposition.

I was the only bidder for the Record and I would now expect Ebay to issue a refund as it would clearly not be right to use a courier who exempt the item the order is for from loss/damage compensation. Evri do not have Vinyl Record on the prohibited list they will still take the parcels but it is an "At your own risk" service.

Seller also has "no returns accepted" enabled.

How do I know what will happen ?....33 parcels now sent to me with EVRI in the past 10 months. I have found 2 left in the Street. The rest just vanished without trace.

You can understand my reluctance to have orders sent with this Company and it's anonymous Rogue Couriers.

Private sellers using Simple Delivery can opt out of using Royal Mail or Evri, I guess that your seller must've opted out of Royal Mail.

Buyers are covered against loss or damage, so that won't be a consideration, but I can fully appreciate that you may not be fond of Evri.

It's not your problem.  If Evri loose or damage it e-Bay will refund you and if you bought it from a private individual, rather than a business seller, they'd get to keep the money.

Would the seller be willing to cancel and relist for you, using Royal Mail? With Simple Delivery, sellers can no longer choose which courier they want for any particular item.  It's not possible to list some items with Evri, and some with Royal Mail - it has to be either all Evri, or all Royal Mail, or both - but if it is both, the choice is made by eBay, not the seller. At the checkout the buyer only sees 'Standard', or 'Express', not the name of the courier.

And I don't think it's possible for the seller to just cancel the label and buy another one for a different service. The seller would have to cancel, opt out of Evri for all their items, and relist with Royal Mail. Of course, they may have reasons why they don't want to use Royal Mail.

In future, it is probably a good idea to ask the seller what courier they use, before buying...

I would rather not buy the item at all, than risk Evri losing it/not delivering it, or damaging it, no matter who covers the refund.

Good Evening Punk

A totally understandably situation and I can appreciate your concern.  Should the record not reach you you can always invoke the MBG and get your money back.

That said as you say that the seller hasn't yet sent it you have the option of cancelling the order and buying elsewhere.

And you have my complete sympathy for the Courier experience! I used to call this the 'dump and run' when Yodel did it to me at a similarly difficult address.

'Delivered' but not to your address.

Left out in all weather, but you don't know when/where to rescue it.

Also attempted' - when you 100% knew they hadn't actually.

Then sent back to Depot, which takes sooo much time - even worse because they add 'lost' to yours.

So @department28 has the right of it, message before bidding/buying to arrange Courier. You can't afford not to.

And as frustrating as it is, spare a thought for the delivery drivers who are usually under pressure to meet crazy targets. Often on 0-hours contracts. And who behave badly out of desperation, to avoid adding time which they can't afford because of sanctions (which from their side they aren't paid enough for).

I agree with whats being said on this thread.     I only list with Royal Mail BUT Ebay do have a tendancy to try and automatically change my items to Evri 😞     I have said RM in my setting only but have noticed that sometimes Ebay still offer both !

We ordered something rather expensive for a gift last Wednesday online.......tracking said to be delivered by Evri Thursday. (Hmmm not who we thought was going to deliver)    Great........then Thursday it change to be delivered this Monday.  This item contains a lot of glass.

Good job we were actually in Sat lunchtime as it was delivered then.   IF Evri had thrown said item over our rear 6ft gate it would have been smashed into a million pieces.   Tracking still says its being delivered tomorrow 😞

I am always puzzled with the `I Will Pay Extra` attitude of buyers, especially when they get angry because the seller CANNOT process an extra payment. How do you intend to `Pay Extra`? Do you want the seller to relist the item at a higher price to cover extra postage? Do you want to pay by Cheque through the post? Do you want to send a Bank transfer for a couple of pounds to the seller? Do you think the seller could be bothered to go through all that hassle just to suit your preference? Please understand how difficult it is for a seller to accept additional payments.

OP is well aware of the existence and workings of Simple Delivery, having taken part in many threads on these boards on that subject, so I don't think that was the point of the post.  His apparent lack of understanding is clearly for the benefit of his post. He knows the item is covered under Simple Delivery, and he is also a seller, with at least some of his items available via Simple Delivery.

I think his post is more a criticism of Evri, which is fair enough, and which I do agree with.

If 31 of 33 parcels sent via Evri have "vanished without trace", I'm quite sure Evri would have taken action by now to rectify that. Unless, of course, he's not reporting these lost parcels.

I'm in Glasgow, only a few miles from OP. I also live in a flat, and I have had a number of problems with Evri deliveries. Their drivers NEVER use the bell or even knock to let me know they're delivering. Parcels are simply left, usually at the door to my flat, but sometimes outside the building, in full view of passers-by. The first I know about a delivery is when it's scanned and I get an alert on my phone, which is OK if I'm at home, but always a worry, if I'm not. This NEVER happens with Royal Mail.

I've also had about a dozen items delivered to the wrong address, as often happens in developments where all buildings look similar. Luckily, all but one were brought to me by decent neighbours. I have reciprocated by redelivering a number of packages wrongly delivered to me. This also NEVER happens with Royal Mail.

I had hoped their tie-up with eBay might spur Evri to improve their performance, but I haven't noticed any improvement yet. If eBay find they are being required to make a disproportionate number of refunds in respect of Evri deliveries, perhaps they will take some action.
