Seller News changes.

You spoke, we listened! In the coming months, we're updating the Overview page to help you focus on key tasks, work faster, & grow your business. Watch out for new changes, and let us know how we could improve.

You spoke, we listened!

How ?Where? When?

We are often told these boards are not viewed by ebay staff.

If this is a genuine effort to work with the platforms users, then why not debate prior to establishing changes?

From history, once ebay dictate something - Its stays, whether its popular or indeed even functional.

I would also question with the amount of MASSIVE major issues which ebay have created over the past couple of months with new policies, wouldnt the repairing of those 'insanity's' come before more changes?

I saw that but can't see what the changes will be, so difficult to offer feedback.  We spoke, they listened, but communication still lacking.

Catch up on exciting news and important updates that can help you build trust with buyers and optimise your business operations.

Ah so its down to the sellers and buyers lack of inter trust, could the Buyers Protection Fee have anything to do in building mistrust, especially as it was not communicated by those who created and wanted the revenue from it.

Where does the trust twixt users and the platform operators stand ?

ebay always seem to find another level below rock bottom.

I expect this may involve yet more Ebay user optimisation? It sounds awfully complicated.

Then again, if the direction of travel aligns with the way we're facing then we'll know we're going forwards, going forwards.

'In the coming months, we're updating the Overview page...'

I'd be very surprised if anything to do with the Overview page would be at the forefront of things sellers would really like fixing.

'Watch out for new changes, and let us know how we could improve.'

Try not introducing 'new changes', unless they are genuinely helpful - and fit for purpose.

Oh I bet my last penny on it being "Simple Delivery for Businesses".

I was at the Edinburgh Road Show..... so yeah - SD for Business! The next cash cow for eBay.

Sorry to say I agree with you

I was invited to complete a (heavily loaded) survey yesterday on this business account, and everything was geared towards trying to get me to say that eBay providing "affordable postage options" was my most important concern.

Not whether or not I might like the idea, but whether it was the MOST IMPORTANT THING.

It appeared as an option in about six questions, where you MUST choose one, and where all the other options were pretty intangible minor things, not really worthy of consideration. I couldn't "go back" on the survey, but here's a copy of one of the questions. Of course I selected the postage options as the least important thing every time.

I plan to raise it on the weekly chat tomorrow, but I already know their answer. They will simply deny that there are any plans to bring it to business accounts.

SD is coming to businesses. Time to get ready.

One of the higher ups - I think the Chief Commercial Office mentioned it in his speech at the Edinburgh Road Show, saying "Simple Delivery was only mandatory to private sellers and it didnt apply to business sellers, for now"

I stopped submitting those surveys as they were forcing positives where I didn’t want to give them leading to unreliable market research that I didn’t want to take part in.

Just as a general point on all of these never ending changes, I’m thinking of private sellers in the main, it is starting to seem very arrogant of eBay to believe their users will be prepared to keep up to date with all of these diktats rather than just bolt to another platform. eBay act like they are entitled to so much of people’s time, people are getting tired of it.

I cant see how they could introduce a BPF for business sellers though, without removing business fees which would be a massive loss to eBay. They could in theory try a double dip & charge fees AND a buyer protection fee but I think that might hit regulatory issues.  Introducing SD would be a massive kick to most business sellers but it would make eBay a lot more cash. I wonder if the big business sellers would stand for that though

Giving business the option of using simple delivery would be no bad thing - after all, more choice is a positive.

Mandating business sellers to use simple delivery would be disastrous and would only result in a mass-exodus of long-term professional sellers from the platform.

I am a business seller who designs and manufactures unique products not available from anybody else. Ebay, I give you my word, a promise, a guarantee that mandating simple delivery will result in me closing all listings, never to return to the platform again as either a buyer, or seller.

Please listen to your customers.

They would also need to be very selective about who they attempted to force onto SD. Some of the big accounts, who are vital to eBay (musicmagpie, worldofbooks) have large turnover / small value models, and already have contracts with RM enabling them to send items second class for literally pennies. eBay couldn't risk losing their trade, so they'll need to be very careful who they try to force compliance from.

I'm not suggesting anything outlandish - they know all this.

I'm retiring in two years, so can we please string it along until then? (Even though SD, in principle, would be good for my particular business, the litany of problems leaves me with no confidence in it.)

...for the moment Kath. I also posted it on the Business Sellers board, after it was removed from here, and it stayed there, so maybe they couldn't pretend it wasn't relevant there.

'Watch out for new changes, and let us know how we could improve.'

It makes you wonder if it's never occurred to them to ask us how they could improve before they make the changes, and then make changes based on what they're told.

I've relisted some and just sold one. To buy a label it's all Packlink (not the old Ebay choices) loads of choices but i'm still custom and doing my own direct with RM.
