I've have just sold an item via GSP. It weighs 7.5 Kilos but the Prepaid label is only for £2.72 when the actual cost should be over £7.00. I can find no clear and concise instructions from Ebay regarding what to do so I have to come here to ask for help!!

Thank you

In  theory Simple Delivery only approximates the weight so it's supposed to be OK if the item weighs more than it says on the label but I wouldn't risk it.

Probably best to cancel/refund the transaction with the buyer's agreement (via the dropdown actions menu arrow for the item on your orders list) and relist with correct postage for the buyer to buy and pay again.

Thanks for this. Can I view the actual label without triggering an Item Dispatched notice to the buyer?

PS to post yesterday. USA customer has now expressed a need for urgency so I would like to send this item via Royal Mail Special Delivery to ensure that GSP centre get it the next day. Any advice on that and original post would be most welcome.

Sorry, I'm not sure if you can view the label without triggering dispatched.   But if you want to use RM's Special Delivery you'd have to change it anyway and the safest way to do that is to cancel and relist.

You will need to opt out of Simple Delivery in order to use Special Delivery so follow the advice for heavy items on here:

Is it the books?

You have free delivery on that listing (seller pays) so you can get a refund for the label and simply send them to the GSP shipping hub via your own trackable postage method and upload the tracking number to the order.

Here's eBay's guidance on how to cancel the Simple Delivery label:

  • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form (link below) for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.

To process your refund, we'll verify the following:

    • The label was paid for by you (you offered free shipping to the buyer).
    • The refund request is created within 14 days from the item's sale.
    • The label wasn't used within 14 days of the item's sale.
    • The package was delivered using a different tracking number.

If your request meets all these conditions, you'll receive a refund for the shipping cost.

Yes it is the books and ephemera - thank you.

However there appears to be no way of adding a different tracking number. Nothing in the drop down menu.

Not sure sure how to proceed.

In that case, I'd contact eBay CS and ask them to manually add it to the order.

I've bought a few things now sent via Simple Delivery and it seems like printing the label marks an item as dispatched for the seller in 'my ebay' but for the buyer it triggers a message with the subject 'Order update' + the item name and the message 'The seller is packing your order' with the tracking number / link.

Then when you actually send the parcel the buyer gets a second message with the subject "your package is now with Evri / Royal Mail"
