Regional Sales

So, I have a few sales a month.  Last one was sold 23 Dec, posted 24 Dec and received on 28 Dec.  Most of my sales go to central England.  Seldom to Scotland, NI or Wales.

But yesterday I had 3 sales, 2 items to 1 buyer and 1 item to a different one.  But both live in central Scotland!  Not had a sale for 11 days then 'all of a sardine' I sell to 2 buyers in Scotland which seldom happens.

Bit of a mystery?!

Re: Regional Sales

This has often been posted, and eBay has often stated that there is no reason why this should be.

In all likelihood, you just notice it when it happens, and you don't notice when it doesn't. I had a spell when I had far too many sales, statistically speaking, from the PE postcode. Since then, I do notice whenever I get a few in quick succession, but, of course, I don't notice any long streaks with no such sales.

I’m in N/E Scotland and the vast majority of my sales go to London and Wales - because I sell my used boutique (expensive) clothing, a lot of which is a brand that is based in South Wales, so it tends to have a lot of collectors in the Swansea area. No mystery there. No mystery either when I get two sales from Cambridgeshire in quick succession - its just a coincidence, I don’t think my listings are only being shown to people in London and South Wales.

Re: Regional Sales

I've noticed these regional sales over the years. I can judge if my  visibility is good as I get sales in the London and other high population areas.

Mine aren’t regional. Mine are names. I’ll suddenly get one sale after another to Malcoms or Johns or Grahams. That one is weird 😅

Re: Regional Sales

What I've noticed with our eBay sales the past four years or so.

We'll sell loads on one day, then practically nothing on the next couple of says, the website is actually pretty consistent with sales.

An anomaly though with sales that's baffled me for years and can't be coincidence is we will have a sale of a product pretty much immediately followed by a purchase again either on eBay or the website of that same product. I used to think it was coincidence but it also seems to work with products that rarely sell, and happens way too often to be chance.

Regionally, we seem to sell more in Scotland and Wales than England or N Ireland.

Re: Regional Sales

The 2nd was a bank holiday in Scotland and we had snow in the central region, where I live.  Could just be holiday browsers.

Re: Regional Sales

Could also be lots stuck at home as it's been Baltic here so lots staying at home in front of the fire!

I only sell about 10 items a month so it's easy to notice where the parcel is going.  More successful sellers won't notice or be much interested.  Strange I only sell about one item a year to Wales.
