The introduction of the eBay Buyer Protection fee of 75p plus 4% of the value of goods, effective from 19th February 2025 has effectively killed off eBay (UK).
Buyers have walked away and Private Sellers are now forced to drastically reduce their prices to try to compete with 'Business Sellers', who are not subject to the eBay Buyer Protection fees.
It's a great shame, and unless eBay's management team in San Jose, California see the error of their ways, and quickly, there will be nothing left to salvage from the wreckage !!

'Ebay do not promote this forum and it is well hidden in ebay's help section...'
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've always wondered why ebay hid this helpful place in 'the small print'.
About 15 (?) yrs ago it was up on the top right, along with 'my ebay', 'watch list' etc. In your face and difficult to miss.
Then it got removed to the 'greyed-out' and smaller font stuff at the very bottom of the page where things like 'copyright' and 'all rights reserved' are...... (the bits most people don't generally read)
Why?
Don't ebay want it's users to help each other with problems? You'd think they'd appreciate the amount of free problem-solving help the mentors (and others) give.
Or perhaps ebay don't want us getting together to complain about them! 😆

Should we start a gang and whisper nasty things behind their back then?

Hmmm. You seem to know alot about that kind of thing.
& it sounds too much like hard work so I'll stick to insulting them openly instead.

Do you actually look at who you are replying to?
Yesterday it looked like you were trying to reply to sunshine but ended up posting to me about what they were saying.
& unless I missed a post it looks like you just did the same thing again.
& to answer your previous question, no, I don't think anyone that disagrees with me is a puppet and that actually wasn't the real point I was making in the post you took it from anyway.
If someone can give me an intelligent counter to something I say, I will listen to it. If I'm proved wrong I will accept it.
I'm not trying to be Mr 100% Right here.
I am fundamentally against elements in this rollout. I think some are probably illegal and if they are I want to find that out so that someone can pass the information over to the relevant authorities.
If they are gaming the system and by default us, they deserve to be punished.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Private Sellers v Business Sellers.
It's about BUYERS not using the eBay platform anymore, following the introduction of the absurd Buyer Protection Fee.
Kindly stay on topic if you feel the need to comment.
FACT: The latest website traffic data for eBay (UK) for Feb 2025 shows a massive drop in visitor numbers
Anybody claiming that the introduction of the Buyer Protection Fee isn't the cause of this is a *bleep* !!

Interesting. Do you have a source for this?

I'd be interested to see his source too. The most popular sites giving out this info haven't added figures for February 2025. The figure for January was variously reported from 199 million to 208 million, so the true figure will be something like that. We should expect a drop of about 10%, as February is a shorter month by around 10%, so as long as the figure is around 180 million or higher, there will have been no drop.
In any case, I would disregard almost everything he/she posts, as he is still pretending that BPF has nothing to do with the private/business issue, despite universal disagreement, and a complete lack of both logic and evidence. It seems to be his/her way.

Also important to consider that traditionally, November and December are the busy months for ecommerce with January also starting strong but falling off into February.

Yes, i do look at who i am replying to which is why it was clearly addressed 'in response to andha-21 in the heading and you obviously knew the post i was referring to as you respond to in in regard to the puppet comment. To be clear it was your message 54 that i responded to in my message 58! As regards one i made yesterday i would have to look that up and find out if i did respond to the wrong person but i doubt it.

i came across the other comment and I see how it was confusing. The original comments i was responding to were 274/275 of the other person basically saying i had no accounts. You responded 278 explaining to them about how people can have more than one account. I then - 293 - replied to you that i actually only did have one account and then went on to explain how many sales i had made on it etc and how i did not know why the moaner was unable to see them.

I started my ebay business after losing my job August 2024.
It was growing and growing December 245 sales then in January 340 sales.
Then 4th February everything changed. I was averaging 9 to 11 orders a day. That day I had 0 zero sales. Instead of having the money upfront now takes 2 days after delivery. Before you had the money and can see the payment straight away now you have to go back and check if you have been paid for it a week later. Then the protection fees came in force so again I had hardly any sales for the next few days. Things have picked up a little but now about 5 sales a day since if I'm lucky. I have now been told I need to upgrade to business account which I have done to find no free listings it costs 0.36 to list an item now. Also the link to the bank account doesn't work so I cant withdraw my money either.
In the last month its gone from a great business and looking forward to the future now after anxiety stress and anger im wondering if I should walk way and get a normal job. Ebay have done everything possible to put you off selling on their site. It's like they want to destroy and great selling platform.

While waiting is undeniably inconvenient for some, no-one should sell on ebay if they are so strapped for cash they can't afford to pay for postage out of their own pocket.
Buyer Protection makes that too risky.

Firstly, that site obviously interprets statistics vastly differently from any of the more commonly used traffic ranking sites.
Secondly, if you accept their figures for February, you also need to accept their figures for January. The link you supply shows that traffic increased in February, despite it being a shorter month by three days.
Perhaps you might post an apology for your misleading post? (i could have worded that a lot stronger)
03-03-2025 9:36 AM
i somehow think hell will freeze over before you get an apology!

I agree with what you're saying, apart from the part about the App and that's only because I don't know anything about it.
Previously I mentioned the "Walther Glass" search, looking again today the number of listings has fallen slightly again (to 158). But, as always, there are plenty of auctions in the search results.
Many will begin and end over week-ends, so the number of new listings hasn't been enough to replace those ending. But at least there have been some sales after several days with none. Auction prices mostly look lower than I would expect.
One sold BIN listing caught my eye in particular. A very sought after part set , 5 of 7 pieces, of a "Sonnenfisch" dressing table set. Normally individual pieces sell for around £50 - £60 each, a full set perhaps for around £350 - £400. The asking price was only £125 and it still took days to sell. Normally it would have sold in hours at that price.
