Quick postage question.

Firstly, apologies if this has been covered elsewhere in the forums.

I am about to get back to selling my comic collection and noticed a few changes, not happy with the new postage system.

I used to sell multiple issues at the same time, normally around £2.00 starting price, with reasonable postage, normally if someone bought multiple issues I would offer to combine postage, which was the best way to do it, having postage higher than value I found was not the best way to start, I would then adjust the postage at the invoice stage if the same buyer bought multiple issues.

However I am not 100% sure the new system does this as it seams content on telling me postage per item, I obviously don’t want to charge postage per item and mail per item if I can send multiple items in the same box.

I did however notice there’s now a custom option, does this work like it used to, buyers buy, I send invoices and adjust if I need to?

I don’t buy multiple items from the same sellers on eBay, so don’t know what the other side presents to the buyer.

Thanks for any help provided.

Quick postage question.

There is,   and has been for a while I might add,  a technical issue with combining postage with the new Simple Delivery.

It's currently not possible to combine  postage!  🙄.

If you are still able to select Custom Postage, to be honest not sure if combining postage is available there too, but soon it will only be Simple Delivery for all Private sellers.

Some sellers are adding this to their listings....

' If you wish to buy multiple items,  please let me know before buying,  I will relist them as one listing so only one postage cost is charged, combining postage is not currently possible. '

Not ideal I know but may save a sale or 2 passing you by.

Quick postage question.

Thanks for the swift reply.

I have always prided myself on being fair with postage costs, I’ve even paid for better cover if the final price goes above my estimate, that’s why the new system bugs me “let’s change something that isn’t broke” 🙁

I got an email saying something about there “listening to users” and changes would come in after the 20th of may, not sure if they did.

I had thought with just seeing if it worked like old and being prepared to cancel the sales on multiple items if eBay insisted on multiplying the postage, which would definitely kill sales.

I might give the disclaimer a try though, thanks for the suggestion.

Quick postage question.

I have had 4 SD sales where eBay have combined postage. The first couple were much higher than I would have charged, the 3rd wasn't too bad, and the most recent one was pretty accurate! Maybe they are getting better at it?! (Though it's probably just coincidence!).

It's worth noting though, the buyer does have to pay in one go, if they pay separately, you get a label per sale.

Thanks for the reply.

I know when looking at packing and how I used to sell in the past, never minded standing in a queue to pay postage, I can get 8 items in the 35x25x2.5 size box, the weight is about 400 to 500g

So I have a rough idea of reasonable postage fees and could adjust them myself, I’ve always thought it unfair to try and skim on postage costs.

I even noticed that eBay had put in feedback from my buyers on a few of my last sales since there first changes.

As a follow up, for the most recent one the buyer was in fact charged less for postage than I would have paid if I bought the label from Evri. Buyer charged £3.38 for 2kg Evri, Evri cost direct, £4.79!
