Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

FOR GOODNESS SAKE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH eBAY ???

Visited my local Post Office outlet this pm. The customer in front of me had 4 of her items sold on eBay refused due to incorrect printed labels supplied by fleece-bay. The member of staff confirmed this customer was not the first to be turned away today.

I am sure that I read, eBay stated Post Offices will accept all items for dispatch.

Thats another incorrect bit of information from eBay.

The question I have, is what does that poor seller now do with those 4 items ??

OKAY, eBAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH … GET IT SORTED.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

How would Ebay be able to see if an item was "lost" if it wasn't scanned into the system through a Post Office ?.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

I am going to play devil's advocate here:

Ebay's simple delivery does not officially start until the 15th April......

Right now the post office are aware, but the way they communicate is via the horizon screens, to employees etc. If they have been told by ebay and RM this is the official date, (eg 15th April) then until then they will see it is correct to reject parcels.

They get fined if items are bagged incorrectly or the incorrect label is on the parel.

I suspect communication will come later this week to the terminals, as there is also I imagine the need for a software tweak to Horizon, as at present it says if item is wrongly labelled to reject.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

It is royal mail who will accept the parcels not the PO they are not part of royal mail .Last week our local post office said they can get a fine for accepting a parcel that is not right in cost ,weight etc

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

Last Friday I went to my local PO for advice on SD.  Not only did the post mistress not know a thing about it but  was shocked when I told her because she had a couple of items listed on eBay herself.

Post offices accept the parcels before they get anywhere near Royal Mail.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

Our main post office in WH SMITHS will not accept parcels that are not correct postage or weight on ebay label and our little local independent post office that is privately owned ,work on comission for things they sell on behalf of royal mail ,but now with the SD labels from ebay the post office won't get money for ebay parcels because the label has been bought by the buyer and not being sold at the PO .

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

So why haven't Ebay told us that the Post Office won't accept wrongly priced items until 15th April?

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

You need proof of dispatch   when sending a parcel with SD ,you need to read all the Ebay messages and updates ,because you can't just leave a parcel in a parcel box and hope it will get to the buyer ,with SD you have your parcel scanned at PO or parcel shop , when you dispatch parcel leaving them in a parcel box doesn't gaurantee they will be scanned when taken out of box ,so without them being scanned  ebay would consider the parcel lost ,No SD proof of postage no payment to seller or long delay on payment . Using your own postage is a risk you take you won't be covered .

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

Ask Ebay that.

And I'll wager that Post Offices (some, not all) won't accept wrongly labelled / priced items after 15th April.

Remember, Ebay have told us that Simple Delivery will be cheaper for sellers and purchasers but it isn't.

Nowhere in correspondence to users have Ebay told us that the main reason for implementing Simple Delivery fees is so that they can cream off a percentage for themselves.

Has there been any comment anywhere as to what a seller is meant to do with the parcel if it's refused?

Not that I know of, only feedback so far is private sellers parcels with the wrong postage label are being turned away.

I assume they could either cancel the purchase or buy another 'correct' postage label out of their selling proceeds.  Either way not a good outcome.

But they are not being accepted … see several postings confirming non acceptance of packages at Post Office outlets.

I agree, I only re-posted what ebay have said, they haven't communicated the agreement to all post offices/staff so this is creating a nightmare for private sellers.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

I blame ebay for through their greed changing to simple delivery to make money on postage and then not making sure all post offices in the U.K. (over 11,000) know what the agreement is.

That said I can still see some post offices still not co-operating with this situation.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

It’s cheaper if you send a medium parcel up to 2kg

Royal Mail charge 6.65 (over counter price)

ebay charge 4.27

only your item isn’t a medium parcel

it’s small but goes under ebays up to medium parcel option because they removed the small parcel size

hazah!

theyve also removed up to 1kg medium size parcel…anything you have up to 1kg gets chucked in as large letter size

its all wrong

They will not go anywhere in the Royal Mail system with under paid labels.

Agreed, at some point an overweight/oversize parcel is going to be flagged and put aside or the buyer will be billed.  Terrible situation all round.

Re: Post Office turning away eBay sold packages

Yes not good having to cancel purchase ,but i think if the label is not used the buyer will be refunded ,Ebay did say sellers need to weigh and measure their item with all the packaging on before listing the item ,then ebay will or should know what postage label to issue for correct size and weight

Your point is well taken but ebay started updating existing listings to simple delivery from yesterday!

I assume that it is up to ebay to tell royal mail and up to royal mail to tell the post offices...
