This is posted from my Business eBay account, but relates to my Personal Account.
So, this morning I spoke with Customer Services about the fact that eBay had changed my listings to allow Evri delivery to be chosen by the buyer, despite it being a 15 mile round trip to my nearest drop off point....thanks eBay 🤦🏻
The lady I spoke with was insistent that the new system is fabulous, right up until the point I said I would close my account then, as it's pointless if it just causes me inconvenience. It was at this point that she offered up 2 pieces of information, one of which may be a work around.
The first piece of info is that under your account settings in Selling" and then "Postage Preferences" you can toggle off either Evri or Royal Mail if either of them are unsuitable for you.
The second thing is the intersting one, as apparently, if I choose to buy a label offsite and not use the supplied Evri label, then the unused Evri label will be refunded within 14 days. Now, it remains to be seen how eBay will react to sellers not iusing their labels and instead making their own arrangements, as it will lead to lots of postage refunds for me as I have my own postage account with Royal mail and therefore, do not want to using Stupid Delivery...sorry, Simple Delivery on any of my listings.
I'm going to try it and use my own label, after which my eBay supplied label should be refunded in 14 days, so whilst it's still a pain, for those of us that don't want to use Stupid Delivery, it might just work...

This is something I was sort of questioning a few days ago re the postage labels...if I sell an item & write my own label out, send it Royal Mail recorded delivery (as per usual) and the item gets delivered,do I get paid or are ebay going to "play up" because I haven't used their SD system?
This has to be the biggest shambles in ebay's history.

Willing to bet (no confirmation though) that the buyers address will be hidden until postage QR/label is created.....

Yes, I think the address will not be available until the label is purchased.
If this is the case, it is another bad thing about SD. I'm sure most sellers like to see the the address before posting - and what about being able to check that there are no errors in the address?

If you click through on the order, the buyer address shows.

I buy my labels from eBay and sometimes a line on the address does not conform to the number of characters allowed by RM - for example when the buyer has put the entire address on one line.
The app flags the address in a dialogue box, and I move the characters onto separate lines.
How's this going to work with SD if the buyer uses the QR code? Will the item be rejected by the PO or the lockers? If so, wasted journey for seller and possible late despatch strike.

Possibly they are thinking for Private sellers to switch to being a Business seller?
However, can anyone guarantee this will not then be bestowed on B. Sellers as mandatory, and once you've switched to Business , you cannot change that account back to Private.
Of course, you can open another account, a Private one, but you're starting then from a new account 0 feedback, and back to SD that you tried to escape from! 😐
I really hope not otherwise my business plan would have to be ripped up and start again,
That is what businesses do they plan ahead based on things known I for one cannot tolerate unknowns,
I have a royal mail business account and have a favourable rate for my postage, SD will massively increase my prices.

Never say never on making Simple Delivery mandatory for businesses - but too many businesses would be of a size where they may be shipping via 3PL for a start. Simple Delivery would be completely impossible.

And removing Evri means your buyer pays a lot more for postage (it's a 16 miles round trip to Evri drop off for me). The standard 2nd class is already more than Royal Mail tracked 48 £3.45, but £4.27 is ridiculous - and the email said something about 20% saving...

The 2-10 kg option is missing when going to list an item.
07-04-2025 5:52 PM
nope, no switch needed.
But If everyone does it ebay will probably throw a hissy fit.

Yes - it didn't take me long to work out that ebay - yet again - have found another way to get more money out of the buyer and the seller at the same time. Keeping our money until 2 days after delivery is giving ebay a stonking amount of ' overnight money ' which is earning them a fortune. As for this latest debacle of 'Simple Delivery ' - until we all complain and have this stopped we, as sellers, are going to have to charge more for our product to cover the automatic postage label and go on with our private postage preferences, whilst giving ' Free Postage ' to our buyers. It is the buyer who is paying ebay for the postage with this latest system. I hate this and will be complaining - not that it will do me any good. I have done this once and was able to change the tracking - not simple.

30+ years I've been with eBay, back then they'd let you list a dead seagull, a bucket of water, your wife
(Those were the days)
Since then, I've seen a lot of changes, some good (most bad).
And I've watched eBay slowly lose its identity, along with is core users.
But for me, this idiotic policy of simple delivery is the final straw.
not on this account, but on one of my other accounts, I sell items I post in royal mail 2nd class large letter.
That's not an option in SD, therefore it is impossible to post my products out without using a courier service, where the cost of postage would be more than the item cost
So my solution is simple, I am gradually moving all my stock over to VINTED
Then I will sit back and watch Ebay die a death that is long overdue

One last thing, stupid deliveries have failed at. No more printing in-store using a QR code. My full move over to Vinted can't come fast enough

Qr codes get you a postage label from the post office and I’m sure evri not sure what the problem is that u mention

'30+ years I've been with eBay, back then they'd let you list a dead seagull, a bucket of water, your wife...'
These days, the buyer would claim they only received an empty bucket...

"30+ years I've been with eBay, back then they'd let you list a dead seagull, a bucket of water, your wife"
Yep, and I gave you positive feedback for two of them.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not that you don't have a valid argument about ebay - but how are you intending to post using royal mail 2nd class large letter on vinted?
