Parcel too large for simple postage

Hi,

I am trying to list a new item on eBay and this new simple postage option is causing some problems.

The parcel will be slightly too large for the largest option available to me and there's other options.

Royal Mail are very strict with size and weight so I know they will turn me away if I try and chance it.

Does this mean I just won't be able to sell larger items on eBay anymore?

I can't see any other options.

Thanks!

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Items that are over 120cm in length or over 20kg are exempt from Simple Delivery.    Click on Packet Size during the listing process and select the largest option.   On the bottom of the pop-up you should see a link to switch to custom postage.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Sadly I see option to make the package any larger with custom postage. They increase in weight all the way to 20kg (the parcel is only 3), but the size doesn't get any larger than 61*46*46cm. I cannot scroll down any further. I have tried on mobile app and web.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

That's odd.   When I do a dummy listing below "Up to 20kg" it says:   "Looking for heavier or larger package options?  Switch to custom postage."

Maybe try a different browser, or contact ebay about it using using callback on here:

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Avoid SIMPLE DELIVERY.

Opt for SWITCH TO ADVANCED OPTIONS and you basically get to do what you could do before SIMPLE DELIVERY came in to play.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

That is  odd, this is what I see at the bottom of that same pop up...

  • Up to 61 x 46 x 46 cm
Fits items like a coffee machine, computer monitor, or game console
  •
    Up to 61 x 46 x 46 cm
Fits items like a home stereo, microwave, or turntable
Looking for heavier or larger package options?

You say you've tried several devices, but have you tried another browser?

Try this combination,   a laptop / PC and use Chrome,  that Custom Postage option should appear for you there.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Try listing it as a dining table and custom should automatically appear

then change your title and category to what it should be

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

I've noticed that ebay is making mistakes by doing this for even low value items in the Stamps category. I've reported it to ebay and they say they're going to sort it out for the Stamps category. But don't hold your breath since it's already been a week and they've done nothing so far.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

I've just been shafted by the very same problem.

I've sold an item for a fixed price including free postage. Ebay have decided that it will fit into a small parcel so they've automatically generated a small parcel label and have deducted the cost.  This item is 70cms long but light weight.  Customer service have told me that I will need to pay again and send it via the Yodel website. Then I have to amend my tracking details, and then cancel the postage they have foisted upon me and they'll refund the postage they have already deducted after the parcel is delivered.......... I certainly won't be holding my breath for the refund !. I suspect that I'll also have problems actually getting paid for the item.

I've now cancelled all of my listings for anything approaching 61cms in length. And if the payment referred to above is not forthcoming I'll join the mass exodus away from ebay.

Enough is enough.

It's a real shame we can't use profanity to express our dissatisfaction with ebay's self-inflicted death of a thousand cuts because it is totally deserved!

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Let's face it!

Simple postage is not simple as in "simplifying" to make things easier for sellers and buyers.

It's simple because it was simply designed by geniuses to sabotage ebay. It's really hard to not use profanity. This is hard work.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

If the postage isn't enough you could always supplement the printed label with real stamps. Never chance it. Make sure there is always enough postage on the package.

It's called simple because that's what the designers of it are!

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

It's just shocking, a lot of my items are over 61 and even 120 but no option to change postage now.

Great idea eBay to remove seller fees then claw it back by taking the excess postage charges from the sellers

Talk about half thought out plans!

I've spoken to two agents today and both gave conflicting advice, one said over the weight would be absorbed by eBay but not over the size then the other said over the size would be absorbed....... Even the agents on the phones don't understand what's going on!

When asked to be sent a copy of the policies and procedures regarding simple delivery all I got was a link to the help pages......if they were any use I wouldn't have had to ring for help hahaha

23 years on eBay and this is the biggest farce yet

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Following on from my parcel is too large for ebay simple postage issue - Because the parcel was over 60cms long Yodel will not allow you to deposit it at their drop off points, It must be collected from your home. I  booked a collection from Yodel, who gave me a collection window of sometime between 07:00 and 21:00. So I set my alarm for 06:30 and then remained a virtual prisoner in my own home for 14 hours as Yodel did not bother to collect it - or even inform me that they were not going to be able to collect it.

I've now cancelled all of my ebay listings as life is too short to be messed about by ebay and unreliable couriers.  I'll be dropping my items off to the local charity shops or landfill in future. I have apologised to the buyer and have refunded her, but I do expect to receive my first negative feedback. Which won't be an issue because I won't be selling on ebay until simple postage is terminated.
