Offers not what they seem

I just don’t understand offers on BINs now. I had an item on at £13.99. Someone offered me £11.99 which I accepted however when I actually looked at my earnings it was only £7.49 as the total offered included buyer protection fee, Simple Delivery postage and VAT! Once these were deducted I was left with £7.49 which I would never have sold the item for if it had been presented to me as 50% less then the asking price. I don’t blame the buyer and have shipped it and will learn to be more careful next time but I blame eBay for this sleight of hand.

I don’t pay VAT, I don’t pay BPF and I don’t pay fir the SD postage so why are these being added to the offer amount making it look like I’m getting more for my item than I actually am. I basically feel I have been conned into giving a far bigger discount than I otherwise would have done and effectively been forced to pay the BPF and postage and the VAT owed by eBay! I am livid.

Offers not what they seem

'I don’t pay BPF'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a buyer makes you an offer, the BPF is taken *off* what they offer you, so you get less than that original offer.

(As in the buyer is offering the maximum they want to pay for the item in total, so the BPF has to come off at the seller's end, so the seller gets less....

BUT, if a seller makes an offer to a buyer, the seller is offering the minimum they want to receive for the item, so the BPF is added on at the buyer's end and the buyer pays *more*...)

'I don’t pay VAT ........ I don’t pay for the SD'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Were you offering 'free postage' or 'Seller pays postage' ?

If so that'll be why the postage came out, *and* the VAT.  The VAT should only have been the VAT part of the *postage*, not the sale.

(The VAT is confusing because (apparently) VAT is only applied to certain types of postage service (including the tracked types used by S.D.) and for some odd reason ebay have decided to show the VAT on postage separately...... which isn't something most private sellers are used to)

This whole new BPF and S.D. shebang is going to take a lot of getting-used-to 😟
